If they wanted to garner attention for Wonder Woman, why
not do something interesting like kill her and replace her
with her teenage protege? Later, as the coup de grace, they
can shock fandom with her stunning return in a six-issue
limited series titled "Wonder Woman-Amazon Prime: Return to
the Tiara"

Could it be that DC employees start work every morning saying "hey let's look at what Marvel did last week for some great ideas!"

••

A few years back I had a conversation with a newly installed Upper Level editorial wizard at DC who described their upcoming plans using entirely Marvel stories from twenty and thirty years earlier. "This will be our Kree/Skrull War, and this will be our SECRET WARS, and this will be our Death of Phoenix. . . " etc, etc.

"We don't want it to scream 'superhero'."

••

"Because we're so very, very ASHAMED of what we do for a living!"

In Wonder Woman's case, i'll go with Perez's reboot and JB's run.

Ditto. I remember jumping onboard for both of these runs. Good stuff!

I`ve never been keen on Jim Lee`s art,his characters always unecessary pen strokes,as if they have just crawled through a briar patch.

If this is just a short term thing, why does JMS go on about how he disapproves of the classic costume?

Design fails because it doesn't reflect the character's origin or purpose. Nothing in the new look to say Amazon, Greek, Mythology, Princess, etc...

Good thing it doesn't scream "superhero" too!

Any bets the real reason for the re-design was in anticipation of a movie, and that whatever happens in the comic book is merely incidental to that motive?

I'm guessing this won't prove to be the case. For all JMS's shortcomings as a writer, he's never struck me as someone who'd be doing movie R&D with a story. He seems more an egotist, assured that he's got the perfect vision to bring characters into the 21st century.

Hmm, DC did have a Rann-Thanagar War (ala the "Kree/Skrull war") a couple of years ago. I wonder if that was one of the projects that editor put together?

Quote from NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" this morning --

"...after the first choice, a velour jumpsuit and mall-walkers, was shot down."
