Pardon my ignorance in the matter but I was shocked to see from the article that Jim Lee is co-publisher of DC now....I guess I just don't get it.

If there's any writer I'd like to see run out of the comic business permanently, its probably JMS - since that's apparently already happened to Chuck Austen. Babylon 5 was great, but JMS sucks as a comics writer. He's apparently got more contempt for superheroes than Grant Morrison seems to have, AND Austen's continuity problem!

(I've been reading the current Wonder Woman series since it began, and I'm dumping it because of JMS.)

One thing I read about the Wonder Woman re-design that made me roll my eyes AND nod my head has to do with her bracelets. She'll be able to leave a `W' mark when she hits people......so now they're not only giving her a shitty costume, but they're also ripping off the Phantom!

The good about the new Wonder Woman outfit is it won't last.

++++

As for the contempt of superheroes, I think the current writers and artists working at Marvel and DC are embarrased by the material and want to put their imprint on these characters as much as possible.  They think Hollywood does these characters justice and they want to monkey off them.  To think comics are a venue that doesn't have the limitations that a Hollywood budget can produce.  These fans turn pro wants to limit the possibilities in their work based on what the media and the movie business thinks of comics.

I just don't understand anymore.  I am not their target audience, I get it.  DC and Marvel no longer publish material  I enjoy reading, about characters I have enjoyed for a couple of decades.  That is fine for me, because it saves me money, and I can read back issues.

DC has spent the better part of a decade focusing on the "big three", and all they can come up with is removing them from the playing field over and over again.  Superman, Batman, and now WW.  Why not use this idea for their graphic novel reboot line?

Why would anyone think people would want to read about Superman walking America for a year?  It's like we have gone lightyears beyond misguided with these creators and stories.  What sounds exciting in any of the interviews by JMS to make me want to read what he has to offer.

Also, DC has spent about a decade now rebuilding Donna Troy.  She is now in the JLoA from what I have read.  What happens to her again?

Crisis may have done a lot of damage to many characters, and DC has spent a decade returning them to what TPTB consider iconic, including Barry Allen's return.  Misguided as it may have been, at least Crisis was exciting.  These new runs sound dull.  Like superhero live action television shows.  I think I see the problem now.

Haven't they done this very same costume two or three times
already? Still, nothing is as bad as that white outfit they
put her in in the 60's. Ironically, feminists hated that
they took away her signature look at the time.

The whole concept is awful. Urban Wonder Woman? Wonder
Woman's origin and ties to ancient Greece through the
Amazon's made her unique. Why take that away? Yet they
aren't taking it away completely, are they? Leaves them an
out when this nonsense gets tiresome, I suppose. I'm tired
of it already!

It would have been better to just create a new character than try to shoehorn this into Wonder Woman.

Agreed, Robert.  Tired and bored.

The whole look just flat-out stinks and completely goes against the WW mythos.  Again, no respect for a legendary character.

Read the story in WW 600. Nice art. Story was pretty meh. Diana is a bit too grounded. A lot of "martial arts" action, but no sense of wonder.

I wonder if JMS is even aware of how many times this sort
of thing has been tried with Wonder Woman? It's sort of embarrassing how pedestrian and "been there done that" the
concept is.

I'll never understand the need to "ground" characters like
Wonder Woman and Thor when one of the main reasons those
characters were a hit in the first place was because of the
fantastic, epic scope of their adventures. That's always
been counterintuitive to me. It's as if the creators are
bending over backwards to appeal to readers that have never
liked the essential essence of the character.

Robert, you are over-looking the fact that JMS really doesn't know ANYTHING about writing SuperHeroes.
