Astounding as usual!!! I am blown away by your rubble! The figures and action aren't too shabby either.
I read it as Iron Man assisting the Hulk.

Another great commission. I chuckle inside a little every
time I see that "obsolete" compact, sleek, Golden Avenger
armor that's supposed to be less sophisticated than the new
bulky models.

Traditionally, art like this (which includes commission pieces, con sketches, etc) is done under a kind of "gentlemen's agreement". We, the artists, agree that the work is not done for publication, and the copyright owners agree not to pursue any compensation for the use of their property.

That's worked for half a century or so, tho unfortunately, in recent years, some people have been pushing the point by putting out "portfolios" and the like, containing reproductions of con sketches and commissions.

And, of course, we are all waiting to see how Disney deals with this. They have been most zealous in protecting their copyrights, from the very beginning. Now that they own all the Marvel characters, will this alter the equation, or, as some think, is the precedent already set?

********

Thanks for the answer JB. Here's hoping Disney doesn't change anything.

Hm. Is that how the rest of you read it?

When I first saw it I was wondering.
But once I looked at the blown up version, it became pretty clear that IM was trying to help the Hulk.

It's always good to see our CEO draw any of these characters, of course, but for me his Scarlet Witch rates special mention; no-one, including Perez, draws Wanda as well as JB IMO.

John, regarding the figures, do you work out their perspectives the same as you would with the background?

As much as their soft, mushy, biological stuff allows.

Looking at the full-size scans is so much fun. I can't stop marveling at the rendering of shiny metal on Iron Man's arms and legs; Nefaria's hair; the scales on Captain America's costume. People who complain about JB's inking need to take a look at some of this stuff, up close, and see the craft.

I realize I'm late in seeing this commission, but it's never to late to commend a great work as is this one. I had forgotten how well Byrne draws the Hulk. The commission is very fluid and active. The composition reminds me of a Peter Paul Rubens painting. There is a great deal of action, but a lot of pleasing movement. Great work!
