My beef with this is: Caliban should really be the name of a troglodyte, evolutionary throwback and this guy looks too...delicate.

••

And Cyclops should have one eye, the Angel should be a supernatural being, Quicksilver should be made of liquid metal, the Toad should be an amphibian, etc, etc, etc. . .

Come ON!

^  LOL!  We comics fans are often too "literal-minded".  "Why is the Black Widow a red-head dressed in blue?  She should be black from head to toe, if she's the BLACK Widow, right? Maybe she should even be African!   :)

Your conception of Caliban is amazing, JB!  It's fascinating to ponder what other sorts of characters you would have come up with if X-Men had been yours alone---how different Kitty would have been, how much more of the original five members we would've seen.....  <sigh!>..........

Speaking of names...

JB,

Why do you think Kitty's code names never stick? She's had a number of them...

I always liked "Sprite" (even tho it was already the name of an Eternal), because a sprite is an elf-like creature, and that seems to fit Kitty, although something like "Ghost" (already taken by an Iron Man villain!) would be more appropriate.  JB's idea, "Kittyhawk" is kinda cool---it sounds as much like a nickname as a superhero name, and that would fit her especially well, if she had not maintained a secret identity.  "Ariel" is kind of nice, but "Shadowcat" has never worked for me, despite the cat/kitty thing.

"Kittyhawk" was the name that led me back to Kitty Pryde, and from the moment the latter became her real name, the former was off the table.

Truth to tell it didn't have much chance of sticking. I'd jotted it down as one of several "bird" names, after rejecting Chris' idea that, "no matter what her powers are," she should be called "Thunderbird".   But, since the power I had in mind for her was not particularly birdlike, alll the bird names went bye-bye.

My first, and continuing, preference was "Sprite",

Sprite captures both her power and her personality -- what more could you ask for in a superhero's name?!

I can't think of another character that has had as many code names as Kitty. Maybe Henry Pym....?

How many, exactly, HAS she had? I can only count three: Sprite, Ariel, and Shadowcat. Has there been one since Shadowcat?

Acording to my poor memory, Pym has had:

Ant-Man, Giant Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, and Wasp. Are there any more?

Hank Pym has used the name "Wasp"??

I guess he has had more than Kitty -- but he has also changed his powers (sort of) along the way...

Maybe Kitty holds the record for most code name changes without a change of super power...?

It's my understanding that Pym took the Wasp name after Janet died in one of the recent events. I don't know if he's still using it.

Cap's problem is somewhat different. How many men have worn the suit, or a variant, by this time?
