Thinking about the FF poster-

I first time I saw the FF poster was in a comic called "The Fantastic Four Chronicles" (1982 - published by FantaCo) It was a the centerfold of the comic.

How did the piece then go on to become a Marvel poster?

Trying to think of a DC hero that would work well in the FF poster format. I can't think of many that would fit...?

Batman comes to mind.

When I was working on the FF, Marvel wanted to do a poster, and I suggested using that piece. It had to be modified slightly (completing the figures to the sides, adding Attuma, etc) but other than that it was just what they were looking for.

Speaking of the FF CHRONICLES, one of my most heartwarming experiences as a professional comicbook artist was being in a shop in Chicago (anonymously) when the book was on the stands, and seeing a couple of kids looking at it. They were maybe 10 years old, boys, and when they reached that center spread image one of them said "Look! The Fantastic Four, their friends and foes!"

The moment could not have been more perfect if Stan Lee himself had scripted it!

Problem becomes vintage, doesn't it? Silver Age versions of Superman or Batman might produce "crowd scenes" like this, but those are not "my" characters in the way the FF and the X-Men are.

Heart-warming!

Mark: A group shot of Superman surrounded by the characters ofyour MOS/Superman/Action runs would be quite a crowd-- all togetherfor their curtain call. For me, that would carry something of thesame emotional charge as the X-Men or FF group shots.

I have read JB's Superman run a number of times--- and I LOVE it!!!-- but I don't know if I would ever request a Superman poster from JB. It's odd. I made an Alpha Flight list for a poster... and discarded the idea. I LOVE JB's AF! There are few titles/charaters that work for these "posters" imho.

Spider-Man would work.

The Avengers would work.

Someone Nathan didn't ask for, and I didn't even think about!
