JB -- how many issues, if any, that were eventually released in the 80s did you work on after Jan. 1, 1980?

JB -- how many issues, if any, that were eventually released in the 80s did you work on after Jan. 1, 1980?•• I quit X-MEN on March 14th, 1980 -- a date I remember because March 14th has an odd habit of recurring as a significant date in my life -- and at that point I was working on issue 143, so based on my production schedule back then, maybe 2.5, maybe 3.

If only Caesar...!
Noting that almost all your X-Men work, JB was in the 70s really demonstrates just how long ago that early work was!

ME: My first thought was to get an Alpha Flight poster. I even made a list of all of the characters that appeared in JB's run. •• JB: I'd probably have passed on that one, Nathan! ----------- Good to know! Still not sure why I passed on even asking for that one.....I got that AF list together and.....well..........it just didn't speak to me! I don't get it. I really love AF. I really think I ended up with the right commission in the end :)

NEW TEAM: ANGEL, ICEMAN, ARIEL ------------------------- Peter: This sounds like it would have been pretty good! ------------------------- I agree-- sounds interesting! Hmmm. Looking back on it, I'm kinda suprised Bobby didn't show up for the final fate of Phoenix....he was the only member of the original team missing. He was at the funeral...

What was the Cyclops robot story line? •• JB: No idea! Long since "dragged to the trash". ---------------- How about the "split up"? Do you remember any details from that plot, JB? Was the "split up" to occur because of what happened to Jean?

Yes -- tho, of course, when I jotted those notes "what happened to Jean" was the psychic lobotomy performed on her by Lilandra and the Shi'ar. My timeline, as you can see, reflects the original idea that Dark Phoenix would become a recurring villain. You'll note, too, that issue 145 is listed as a "breather". That comes from the not uncommon notion, back then, that after five or six issues of nonstop action (sometimes more) it was appropriate to do a low-key, "nothing happens" issue to allow the readers a "breather". Looking back, the clarity of hindsight reveals this to be a Very Bad Idea, since, of course, "every issue is the first issue for somebody", and those new readers would have no way of knowing the "breather" issue was a change of pace.

Regarding character interaction in JB's FF poster, I like the way Gorgon is good-naturedly consoling Karnak with a hand on his shoulder, as Karnak looks indignantly... or perhaps enviously... at the Wizard's helmet!
