Not sure if this should be in its own thread, but what does everyone think of the mosque being built near the site of the former Twin Towers?

Big deal.  While I hold contempt for religion in general, I don't blame every practitioner for the violence committed by specific persons.

I agree.  It's sad that all Muslims are villified by American Christians-- apparently Christians are totally innocent of any wrongdoing ever!

If I lost a loved one on 9/11, I would say I would be very angry about it, but I would hope I could be the better person and not blame all people that belong to the same religion.

Being in a small town in the midwest I don't have any experience with the Islamic religion. But from what I see on the news and throughout history, as religions go, they are one of the most dangerous religions. I mean they believe if you draw a picture of Mohammad you can have a price put on your head. That's just crazy.

Again the way they treat women, it is repulsive.  But, I don't like almost all religions, so there you go.

I don't blame 9/11 on Islam.  Or Christianity.  Or any religion, political party, or country.  I blame a bunch of fucking idiots.  Idiots who use religion as an excuse.  I don't believe in gods, but somehow 99.9999% of the people who do are not dangerous.  I have no problem attacking religion, but I have a huge problem with prejudice that claims one religion is better than another.  Most people just interpret their religon's teachings or traditions in a way that is constructive, not destructive.

You can't fault Islam for the actions of nuts. The bible has some
instructions in Leviticus that I'm more afraid of than anything in the
Koran. It all comes down to how the psychos interpret the words.
I'm more afraid of Christians than muslims.

The only difference between Christians and Muslims is a couple hundred years of living in a more secular state. Most Islamic countries are just that - Islamic. Even if you consider the west - Europe, North America - to be "Christian," as "Christian" nations we've spent the better part of the last millenium going through wars to fight for more secular nations and theories.

I wouldn't even say the U.S. is "Christian" based on it's founders separation of church and state, and some of the ideas thrown around at the time. The French Revolution - that's Catholic France - went entirely non-religious for a few minutes there.

Nothing of the sort has happened in countries like Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc yet. Have them go through a Renaissance, Reformation, Age of Enlightenment, etc, and I'm pretty sure they'll start to be a little more liberal in their views too. Not that we're perfect, and not that we're not slipping backwards thanks to morons like Palin, Fred Phelps, the 700 Club etc, but at least there are large portions of our populations that don't get killed or stoned for calling those people morons like we should.

"You seem to be going out of your way to defend the indefensible. "

Students wearing costumes while making a student film for history class is indefensible?

That's news to me. Then again, I'm not bigotted towards acting.
