Here's an report from CBS about Alabama gubernatorial candidate Bradley Byrne, who is being attacked in ads for believing in evolution: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20004740-503544.html In response, Byrne points to his long standing Christian beliefs and, contrary to the ad's claims, that he believes "every single word" of the Bible is true. Might this issue alone derail his campaign?

To be fair, although the ads do mention his belief in evolution in a deragatory manner, He is being attacked for flip-flopping...for being a democrat and now wanting to represent as a republican...the add uses his former statements to show that he may not be what he is advertising himself to be.
It could derail his campaign as he is running against the "Ten Commandments" judge, and the "We speak English here" guy.

I saw this on tv the other night. I seriously doubt either of them will be nominated. Just because they know they will not win a general election. Bradley is firmly in the lead.
Im voting in a Republican primary to make sure neither of those jackasses wins. As far as I know Alabama is an open primary state.

I like the speech at the end of the Aaron Sorkin scripted "An American President" where the President, when attacked by the Republican candidate for being a member of the ACLU, answers with "Why aren't you?". I just wish one day we'd hear of a candidate being "accused" of believing in evolution coming back with : "Yes. I "believe" in Evolution. Of course I do. Why don't you?"

Fighting for ignorance may not be a bad thing. Look at Saudi Arabia, one of the most backward-looking, religious countries in the world. If Alabama keeps it up, God might just conjure a bunch of oil wells and make them gazillionaires !

Joe even if that happened, it would just be the Tim James and Roy Moore's who would benefit.

This is only tangentially related, but I've gotta put it somewhere.
I was just reading a news article about the lone young boy who survived the Libyan plane crash; one of the doctors had this to say about his survival:
QUOTE:
It's something from God, that he wanted him to live longer. |
|
|
The religious mind simply baffles me; how does one reconcile this line of thought? God wanted this little boy to survive, so that means he wanted the other 103 people on board to die?

************ SER: That is a chief philosophical question: How does one justify a God who grants miracles, while denying others? Is his ability finite? If so, he's not omnipotent? I suppose this is where the omniscience card is played -- we can't presume to know God's "great plan."

Stephen - I think it has something to do with what they call "God's permissive will". I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but I trhink many Christian scholars believe that if you live your life outside "God's perfect will" you are subject to "limited blassings", and also suffering and trials in your life. And since no one can have a life that lives up to "God's perfect will" all believers are subjuct to these.
