Geez.... Having Galactus himself make a speech about being "beyond morality" sucks all the grandeur and majesty out of the character and turns him back into the cosmic thug so many writers after Stan were so set on showing him to be.

Lines like that only work when said ABOUT Galactus, not BY Galactus!

Alan Davis plotted and drew that scene above - the X-Men wound up traveling through time and space to the Skrull Homeworld....just in time for Galactus' feeding. Another writer did the scripting, though.

I dunno, JB. Is Galactus's dialogue on that page much different in tone than what he says when he first threatens Earth?

Terry Kavanagh, to be precise. That story actually picks up on two threads from JB's run. Galactus destroying the Skrull throne world, and the idea of "Skrull ops" seen in FF 249-250, an idea which was revisited again in the "Secret Invasion" crossover.

••

What's missing there, Paulo, is the later scene in which the WATCHER says Galactus is not evil. That he is "above good and evil". That he "does what he does because he MUST!" It is that additional moment that transforms Galactus from the cosmic thug he SEEMS to be on the two pages you posted, into something very, very much more.

Into, in my opinion, one of the most intriguing and CHALLENGING characters in all of literature.

Fair enough, JB. "Petty morality" does sound bad.

BTW, the first of those two pages is from your own FF 257, which the comic of the second page revisits. I just thought it would be interesting to juxtapose them; I probably should have noted that in the post.

Yeah -- THERE'S a shot that doesn't work any more. Not in MY head, anyway!
