A CGI Galactus stomping around Manhattan -- or Tokyo, or wherever that was -- would have stood a very good chance of just looking silly. It would have taken a very deft hand to do him justice.••

Did you think the Iron Giant looked "silly"? The Balrog? The cave troll? The Transformers?

If Galactus was played as a giant cardboard cutout "stomping around", sure, he'd look silly. But what if some thought was put into it? What if, because of his immense size, he moves somewhat in slow motion, with perhaps a slight "ghost image" following him? (And I don't recall Galactus being particularly inclined to "stomp" anyway!)

Um, JB, You do realize you just argued a point with yourself, right? Are you feeling OK? Do you need to take a lie-down?

If I am inadvertently quoting someone quoting me, it makes no difference. The point still stands. A poorly done CGI Galactus would look bad up on the screen. But there is no real reason for him to be poorly done.

Do I contradict myself?
Very well, then I contradict myself,
I am large, I contain multitudes.

But I didn't actually contradict myself. I made the same point in two different ways -- Bad CGI = Bad.

Waaaaaaay back when, as a youngster, I drew a Galactus picture where he is sitting at a table with a fork and knife in hand, and a helping of planet Earth on his plate. If I find it sometime, I will have to share it with you guys in this thread.

The guy who makes Giant Cardboard Robots went to his office as Galactus this past Halloween:

Both slightly ridiculous and completely awesome at the same time!

Galactus vs Terminus seems to be done more than you'd think.  That fight would last about 3 seconds if Terminus was really lucky.
