QUOTE:
Drawing attention to the differences of each universe. Was this not a feature of the series? The distinctness of each universe? |
|

DC Earth is said to be bigger than Marvel Earth; DC heroes more trusted than Marvel Heroes; DC heroes more powerful than Marvel heroes -- sure, but nothing about all the characters becoming weaker in their opponents universes. Only Flash's power decreased, and that's because of the absence of the Speed Force in the Marvel Universe, like I said before.
QUOTE:
Well, Superman beating Thor pretty much settles the question, doesn't it? |
|

It settles how Busiek was going to have Superman and Thor fight. Beyond that, it settles nothing, in my opinion, given how fans are still debating the outcome.
QUOTE:
At least in Busiek's mind. But, just so Marvel fans don't feel bad, he arbitrarily has Iron Man defeat Wonder Woman (no particular reason why this should happen, but hey, Marvel has to even the "score" somehow). He also creates this situation with Thor's hammer and how Superman could only lift it because Mjolnir allowed him to. Or something. |

No doubt, there are consolation prizes in JLA/Avengers.

How so? I'm just going on what I've gleaned from reading Superman comics since your reboot.

I honestly don't know where you're getting this. I never said it.

Sure, but that's not for lack of effort on Busiek's part.

I confused you with someone else. Sorry about that.

No doubt. Nothing's ever settled in comics.

Read first as a reprint in FANTASTIC FOUR 189, the classic Human Torch vs Golden Age Human Torch. Always surprising when I realize this may be my favorite FF story of all time, and Ben Grimm is barely in it! This Lee/Kirby period is simply amazing. And it includes Lockjaw and Wyatt Wingfoot.

When I think of Namor and Iron Man, I think of TALES OF SUSPENSE and the Jack Kirby fill-in job for an ill Gene Colan:

INCREDIBLE HULK 207: One of the saddest scenes I've ever seen. I miss this kind of Hulk story.

Unfortunately, Chad, if a story like that got published today, it would be panned as "emo" by a good portion of the comic reading public, I think -- the armchair tough guy portion that refuses to admit there is pain in life.
Who did the art in the two Torches' fight, by the way? It's insane.

As far as I can tell, he simply had some characters beat other characters, with Superman beating Thor, Iron Man beating Wonder Woman, etc.
Iron Man beat Wonder Woman!? There’s an idea that I could not have come up with in a million years. I'm a Marvel guy all the way, but – he's just a guy in hi-tech armor! She is Wonder Woman!
Grrr!

Thank you, Johan! We'd be in much better shape creatively if more fans and pros could start thinking like that.
