There is this shot of Batman from a story back in the 70s. I think it was drawn by Walt Simonson ( but I'm not really sure) He's leaping at the reader with his cape fllowing, his body mostly in shadow. The thing that struck me was the short ears. This was the era of Aparo, Adams and Dillin. The ears were getting longer yet here was this short eared Batman. Cool drawing that I aped for years. Now I've lost track of where it was from.

So we get three panels of the same drawing, only slightly
modified for the shield?

And, pardon me for asking, this is the GREATEST scene
you've ever seen reading comics?

"Okay, this one's recent, so it's a bit early to call it the "Greatest scene EVAR!", but it's the first thing that popped into my mind while reading this thread."

Not the greatest ever, but a cool Wolverine scene before he became a characterture of himself. X-men annual 10 the New Mutants (in their awful graduation uniforms though Karma's was ok) try to save the X-men from Mojo who has them all brainwashed, Karma makes the mistake of trying to possess Wolverine, I just love the claw marks on the wall, imagining what she must have thought while Wolverine is going berserk

No harm Patrick. Your favorite scenes doesn't have to be everyone else's.

It's funny how we can differ in taste.  At least one scene selected in this thread numbers as one of my least favorite scenes ever.

At any rate... the best scene that comes to mind for me is in Fantastic Four #79.  The Thing has been turned back into Ben Grimm by a formula Reed has developed.  Reed tells him the formula works only once, and if Ben is ever changed back to the Thing he will remain the Thing forever (at this point the gimmick of the Thing changing back to Ben had not been overdone to death, and the threat of becoming the Thing forever actually carried some weight).

Anyway, the Mad Thinker's Android goes on a rampage and attacks a restaurant where Ben and Alicia are having dinner.  Ben tries to help out but the android of course tosses him aside like a gnat.  Then he turns to threaten Alicia.  Seeing Alicia endangered, Ben dons the Wizard's wonder gloves and uses them to transform himself back into the Thing, sacrificing his humanity to save her.

I couldn't find a scan of that scene, but I did find the final few panels from the issue, where Johnny arrives at the restaurant and sees Ben transformed back into the Thing.  Brings a tear to my eye, too.  Needless to say, this is my favorite FF story.

That scene with Captain America at the end of the Masters of Evil story in the Avengers is one of the great ones, my other favorite Avengers moment is the end of Giant-Size Avengers #2 when the Swordsman dies saving Mantis.  Back then comic book deaths were rare, and actually meant something.

Great choice, Robert.  These days it's kind of hard to believe there was a time when a superhero death could actually be surprising and moving.  Cockrum art with Adams inks... hard to beat that:

not really the greatest scene but definitely the most memorable for me was when Tony Stark became too much of a drunkard to be Iron Man (had to have been some time back in early 80's or so)

so he was living like a bum in the streets, he found a bum girlfriend and at one point she asked him if he loved her and he said "...'course I do Gretel"  ---- then he somehow became an onlooker where Iron Man (I can't remember who was taking his place at the time) was fighting someone, getting beat up,  and Tony, as drunk as can be, said "ya should use the repulsors" because the Iron Man replacement didn't know about all of the suits functions....  he helped Iron Man win the battle--

I remember waiting and waiting with each new issue for Tony to sober up and become Iron Man again.
