The general answer is a resounding "yes!" All it takes is for writers to stop beating this "kewl" drum and create original, fun content - telling exciting stories about the characters we love.

And Patrick - the X-Men 2010 image is indirectly using the same treatment as the Watchmen's familiar Smiley Face with a dribble of blood.

My guess is that by the end of the year, Reed Richards will somehow murder millions in a pursuit of what he (as the world's smartest man) perceives as the only way to stop war, strife and to unite humanity... while the X-Men slowly stroll through 12 issues talking and solving one minor-league hero's murder.

So... this = this? That's a bit of stretch, don't you think? Certainly not worth all the vitriol being spewed in this thread...

(Oh, and a side-note - we're still doing the "M*****" shtick? Really?)

"That's a bit of stretch, don't you think?"

Leave it to an Image fan to miss an obvious rip-off.

Zing! A personal attack! Looks like I hit a nerve.

More than anything else, the X-Men promo reminds me of this, not the Watchmen smiley face.

And so it keeps going around in circles.  NASCAR racing is better than this.

It reminds me as well of this Legion of Super-Heroes image.

Really? You 2 don't see the yellow circle with a drop of blood on it? There is no arm or a symbol "drenched" in blood. C'mon it's the Watchmen accept it.

Imagine if organized fandom like today existed back in 1961...

All the complaints that Stan Lee had ruined the Human Torch -- turned him into a TEENAGER for goodness sakes! -- the Sub-Mariner and Captain America. That the Hulk was a poor man's version of The Heap. That Kirby drew so much better on Challengers of the Unknown and Green Arrow compared to this current Marvel trash like Fantastic Four. That this new Green Lantern without a cape and this new The Flash without a helmet were just plain wrong. That the yellow oval around Batman's chest symbol was a cheap gimmick, and the real Batman should be going to colourful exotic planets out in space. That comics had gotten too grim and gritty because characters like Spider-Man were dealing with real life issues like paying bills and getting medicine to Aunt May.

The best thing I can say about WATCHMEN is that it was interesting. I semi-enjoyed the experience of reading it the one and only time I did because it was different, but it left me tired, wasn't fun at all, left me with no desire to read it again, and I hate the influence it's had. The movie was terrible.

Will comics get over Watchmen? One could always hope, but considering
how many fans of that book who's writing and editing comics today I'd say
"No".

+++++++++++++++
I don't think that being a fan of watchmen and currently working in the
business is a problem, but if it colors you work to the point where you want
EVERYTHING to be like watchmen, that's a problem.
So can comics get over Watchmen, sure.
Can everyone hate watchmen, no. Some people will still like it and that's
fine.

I don't see Watchmen in the pic either.

I think Hickman already tackled this.

FF is pretty good right now.
