The most odd ads I have come across are usually in Charlton comics. I think that they accepted ad revenue from just about any company. :-)

While checking for old ads on the 'Net (I exhausted the files I have stored on my external drive for now), I came across a picture of some kids in a "star jet" ordered from a comics ad:

Y'know, I had a full schedule of things to do today, but instead just spent a couple hours reading through my old comic collection because of this thread...

I should do that more often, because it was lot of fun.

Can't believe I had all of these as a kid...  The Major was a nice posable figure, but the wire armature inside his molded rubber body had a tendency to break very easily, so his arms or legs would fall off.   The crawler could be mounted on top of the space station to form a crane, but it caused so much torque when you fired it up that the whole top of the station would fly apart.  The crawler eventually died when the batteries discharged inside it, and the station ended up being given away while I was in college.  I believe either my brother or I has the Major's head floating around in a parts box somewhere...

I had a lot of the Matt Mason toys and that M-16. Never got any of the mail order toys.
