Paul, the story was part of a serialized one. But, I don't know if it was a reprint from newspaper strips or not.

I like that old DC checkerboard border, it made their comic books stand out on the spinner racks.

If I still have it packed away somewhere, this is it:

Four Color #134, Dell, 1947

The oldest I ever had was Black Hood #14, MLJ Comics, 1945.  I've since traded it off.

Ed, thanks for the info. About how many pages of the comic does the Chan story take up?

Tim, awesome GL cover! Now we just need to find 10 other Northeast Ohio guys that have issues 1-10 and we can have a party!

These were my first three Golden Age purchases - bought many years ago from the legendary Jerry Bails at one of the Detroit Triple Fan Fairs in the 70's.

Total cost of the three books - less than $15.

I thought I had a few Daredevil older than these but these were the oldest I found - the year of my birth!

I just now noticed that the #6 is $.25 and the #13 is $.15. Can anyone explain this?

Dave, IIRC, the early Surfer issues were all larger and higher priced, much like the Marvel Annuals of the era.  I get that didn't sell well month-to-month, and starting around issue #8 the price went to 15 cents.
