I vastly prefer spending my money on good, OLD comics.

Same here, just went to a convention yesterday and gladly hit the $.50 bin to pick up some stuff from the 70s and 80s and enjoying every minute of it.

I stand corrected.  Apologies to DeFalco.

Here's a better idea, Mike W. Barr on Batman and Robin & Batman and the Outsiders instead of Grant Morrison & Dan DiDio.

Gwen Stacy is an example why I don't get who they're targeting. Don't you have to have read a whole lot of Spider-Man to find that plot shocking? Didn't she die in the early 70s? Or was she reestablished more recently? I don't see why plots should reach any further back than 2005.

How about Rob Liefeld as Marvel's new editor in chief?

As a "What If?" scenario it would have been interesting to see Dick Giordano take a shot at being EIC, and as a turnabout seeing what Jim Shooter might have done at DC.

Would Howard Mackie take up the position if offered it?

Other ones I can think of might be:

  • Bob Budiansky
  • Carl Potts
  • Bobbie Chase

Long ago I observed that it would have been a good thing overall if Dick and Shooter had swapped jobs every five years or so. Shooter had got Marvel back on its feet and pointed in the right direction -- basically to the point where what was needed was a kindly figure who would give everybody the thumbs up and say "Good Job!" instead of trying to keep justifying his existence by "fixing" what was no longer broken.

DC, on the other hand, was a mess, and could really have used Shooter and his death ray. But only for about five years.

Who knows, this might have spared us SECRET WARS and the madness that came after.

Does DiDio at DC stir up as many emotions?

++

… IIRC he had something to do with JB's return to Action…

"What? I didn't mention you're only being hired for 9 issues? So the fanboys can squeal and whine and wail that 'Byrne never stays on a book!' again? I'm SURE I told you that!"

Let us all just hope that whoever comes after Quesada is not worse for the characters.

Since the bean counters run Marvel, it really doesn't matter who sits in the EiC chair. Anything that sells books -- and sells them in this environment of diminished expectations we have come to accept -- is all that matters.

Long term thinking? That means next Tuesday, right?

Louise Simonson would make an excellent editor in chief.
