Regarding Brian's comments... do high school (or even college) kids truly read Marvel comics in any substantial numbers?  I've never been to a con, and I don't spend a lot of time in comic shops, but I don't think I've seen anyone under 30 in any comic shop I've been to in the past 10 years (aside from little kids who got dragged in with their dads).  Is my experience anomalous... are there really new younger readers being recruited somewhere, somehow?

Maybe there are some new readers but not necessarily younger. I've persuaded a couple of my friends in college to read comics and I've succeeded .

I think it is a sad statement that Quesada has the second longest tenure as EIC at Marvel.  Maybe he really is good and I am just not getting it!

More likely our time has just passed and like generations before us we have all learned that the new stuff is garbage.

Rumor has it that the only reason Quesada got the EIC job was because no one else wanted it.

Alright, enough!

Right now, I want names of people who SHOULD be Marvel EIC. I don't mean fantasy league stuff either - like "Stan Lee!"

Realistically, who could Marvel get that would make the most sense going forward in a different direction (since for the most part we're all in agreement the current direction is not so good)?

Jim Shooter again? Tom DeFalco? Tom Brevoort? Axel Alonso? Ralph Macchio? Steve Wacker? Anyone think a guy like Erik Larsen would do it? Jim Valentino? Someone from the creative side of things, like Kurt Busiek, Mark Waid, or JB?

I know there's better than Quesada out there - but hire a guy RIGHT NOW, and who is that guy?

It's interesting to note that prior to Shooter, no Marvel EIC was ever fired from the job... they all resigned (except for Stan, who was promoted out of the job).  Several of them (Roy Thomas in particular) could likely have had much longer tenures if they'd so chosen.  Meanwhile, since Shooter, there has been no EIC who has resigned... they've ALL been fired.

I think it doesn't matter who is EIC.

Comics are going to sell marginally better or worse, anything is kibitzing about content. I would take an old school EIC because I prefer old school content... sales would likely go down initially, if not indefinitely, if that happened though.

Well of course if JB were EIC we would have the true Marvel back, so he would get my vote but I doubt that he would want the job.

The best thing to ever happen to comics is that Jim Shooter is no longer involved in them.
