Serious question: what were Quesada's qualifications that got him the job? He was a fairly popular artist (as I recall) with very little output. His own creation...about the fireman....(what was it called?) went absolutely no where. Then suddenly he's the most powerful man in the comics publishing business. What'd I miss?

Did you miss "Marvel Knights"?

Joe - he helped start the Marvel Knights line, which was hugely popular with the addition of Kevin Smith, Garth Ennis, and a few others to the Marvel stable of characters like Daredevil and Punisher.

Then Marvel decided that maybe having people like that on their entire line was a good idea. So they snagged Quesada for the job, and then we got what is called Marvel today.

In retrospect, not Quesada's fault per se - he's doing exactly what he was hired to do. Unfortunately, he was hired to make a lot of shit.

When Marvel Knights was making a splash, I suggested to Walt Simonson, Frank Miller, and one or two others, that we create "Marvel Kings"!

How fitting that Marvel's last big event was called "Dark Reign," because that's exactly how I would describe the last decade of Marvel under Joe Quesada.

I blame Quesada for killing my love for the X-Men; a title I had read religiously for more than two decades.  I haven't bought an issue in years.  Those aren't MY X-Men anymore.  Those characters bear a physical resemblance, but that's all.

Even that may be debatable.

Once Morrison and Quitey got through with them, not even that. They did me a favor though - once they no longer even LOOKED like the X-Men, that was what I needed to finally break free.

Yes, I know that they went back to having costumes - but since I now have a hole in my collection anyway, it's going to take much more than that to win me back. I do thumb through current issues on occasion at the store, but i usually wind up shaking my head in disappointment and putting them right back on the shelf.

I didn't miss MARVEL KNIGHTS, I guess my timeline was off.  I thought of MARVEL KNIGHTS as his first big thing as EiC, not what propelled him into that gig.  Either way....ugh.

Funny thing is, I was watching a documentary on PIXAR and how they decided to make a change after 4 amazing sucesses (Toy Story, Bug's Life, Monsters and Nemo). So they decided to start with a new Director, who made "The Incredibles".
And I have seen that in other corporations, they seek for change, even when things are working just fine...
Why Marvel would keep Quesada any longer?
And with Disney, maybe it is just a matter of time for a change, at least that is what I hope...
