The Green Goblin didn't murder her, he just knocked her off the bridge.

This, in my mind, is when Spider-Man became a lot less fun.  Well, that and the whole smoke-stack Spider-Man issue.

Setting aside, for a moment, the controversy over Gwen's cause of death, the Goblin was directly responsible for her death--even if it was Spider-Man's attempt to save her that really killed her.

The Sins Past retcon makes it premeditated murder, though, as the implication is that she was a target because of their relationship rather than just a target because of her relationship with Parker.

....aaaaannnddddd I just threw up.

Despite the shockwaves of damage that rippled out from it, I still maintain that the two-parter is one of the best Spider-Man stories ever, since it exemplifies the danger to Peter's loved ones that his life as Spider-Man can cause, and also reaffirms Spider-Man's inherent morality when he refuses to kill the Goblin, despite what he's done.

Of course, as it stands now, Gwen was killed because she kept her and Osborn's bastard, rapid-aging kids from him.

So, Spider-Man unknowingly got involved in a Gwen-Goblin war, instead of Gwen getting killed as a tragic consequence of the Spider-Man-Goblin war.

Utterly insulting, badly-written nonsense.

All this is just reminding me why I gave up on Marvel! GAH!

Roger Stern (although he'd run far, far away if asked). Quesada isn't going in the direction that many of us here might like, but he has boosted sales gradually for Marvel over the past decade and built up a healthy tpb market.

The upcoming "Heroic Age" event (yes, it's another event, but still...) sounds like it's a step toward a more positive Marvel Universe.

I am not sure if he would take the job, but I believe that anyone is better than Bruce Timm to make things right at Marvel.

In case nobody said it, Marvel was out of bankruptcy not long after it went into bankruptcy, when Perlmutter & co. bought Marvel they bought out the debts etc. Marvel was out of bankruptcy when Harras took over the EIC position.

Why don't we look at this in a new direction? Why do you need an Marvel Editor in Chief in the first place?

Consider: Publishing is just one arm -- a palsy arm at that -- of an enterprise that's really making its money nowadays by licensing characters for movies, toys, etc. Essentially the comics exist to maintain trademarks for these other revenue generating ventures.

So... Why not wrap-up Marvel as we know it and license the characters to another publishing house? You suddenly take an unprofitable publishing arm and turn it into a profit center for Marvel.
