Someone with a little time could Photoshop some trunks onto that Batman and I bet it'd look great.

Look more closely at that "Earth One" Superman, fellas... There are seams going down along his rib cage and stomach, and his inside thighs.

Edited to add: About Gary Frank's Batman design, the thing that bothers me most is the "snap-on" mask. Why is it like that? It doesn't look cooler, and it's not more realistic as far as I can tell. I mean, besides the comics, cartoons, and movie versions, there are Halloween Batman masks that don't require any visible seams or button snaps.

Like a fellow poster noted before me, Gary Frank's art is nice, but not that outfit he designed for Batman.

Everything is disliked by me in the Gary Frank picture. The belt is almost high up on his chest. Without trunks, or at least some kind of pants, the suit becomes a 1960's communist overall, the one everybody wore to be unique yet everybody wore it and looked like everyone else. And overalls are not very comforable to move around in, we put them on kids that can't say no. The middle picture in the second column looks like a bird. Why not change Batman's origin, he became Batman when he was bitten by a bird at a very young age and couldn't handle it and so he became Batman? That's how bad the picture is to me. I like JB's Superman and Batman and of course Frank Miller's Batman. In Europe we are not into art that is meant to be too realistic looking I think.

Frank's characters always look like they need sleep. In his Superman they look wired on coffee. In this Batman they woke up to early and are grumpy.

As for Davis, I like the Golden Age look of Superman's shield. I prefer a Superman with a wave to his hair, so I'm not keen on the mussed look.

Matt, thanks for noticing the seams. I also tend to think there are two blue tones on the costume, separated by the seams.

Don't like the Frank design. Batman's costume is not the same without the trunks.

I'm also not really enamored of the drawing itself. The pose seems wrong somehow. Also, it seems like Frank is going for a Jim Lee sort of look here and the result is underwhelming.

Not so sure I can be that generous about the Superman image. It looks kind of greasy to me -- and I don't mean just Superman cool modern do.

It reminds me of Brandon Routh, which I don't see as a good thing.

The above posted Batman page is one I've wanted to have reimagined for a long time.

The Batman rethink needs more thought. I especially don't like the visible irises. The trunks are necessary for the proper look, in my opinion. The utility belt isn't bad, except for the long "pouch" on the left hip, which looks like it would restrict movement. I like the combination of cartridges and pouches except for that. As noted upthread, if you're darkening the bett, go with the all-black chest emblem. The mask looks armored on the forehead, which should be unnecessary (as was the Miller chest armor). A Batman that needs armor isn't picking his fights correctly.

And Bruce needs to see a barber, or buy a comb.

I wish they still made comics like they used to.

Holy Shit!  You're RIGHT, Matt -- there ARE f*cking seams in the Superman costume.  God DAMNit!  And you're right, also, JB - he does look kinda greasy.  I should've specified that the drawing, technically, was fine.  The face resembles Christopher Reeve -- sort of.  Not as strong, though, especially the chin.

The yellow "S" on the red field on the cape wouldn't bother me - I kinda prefer it that way - except for that story I read when I was a kid, "The Land of a Million Supermen"*, where the cape's shield's colors were a major plot point.  Change for change's sake is NEVER a good thing.

*Action Comics #233 (1957) - and, NO, I'm not that old, it was reprinted in Superman 80-Page Giant #187 (1966) - and, YES, I AM that old...F*ck it...
