I'm having a hard time seeing how her hair and cape could behave that way in the rain.

I have a hard time seeing how that getup would intimidate anyone.

That striping seems to be the modern way of designing costumes for film. I think it's because in comics, you have all of the line work to accentuate the musculature and create visual interest across what would otherwise be a single swathe of color. In real life, you don't have that AND skin tight costumes flatten muscle, not accentuate it. So, the piping and rubber stripes added to the cotumes serve that purpose.

So, naturally in a tail wag the dog world, that's the way they need to be designed in the comics as well.

This is one of the conceits of the genre. Bat costumes are scary to criminals. I have no problem accepting that.

That Batgirlk costume is OK -- although it has the whiff of concept art for a movie costume design rather than being a proper comic costume.

One of the fun things of comics when I was a kid was some things could only look like that in a comic. There was no need for hyper-reality to encroach. That costume could be created in real life to look exactly like the art and I think it loses an element of fun from that.

I'd hazard a guess that the purple is a visual nod to Stephanie's previous costumed identity as Spoiler, who had a predominantly purple costume.

She's alive?  Silly me, I thought they killed her off a couple of years ago.  How did she return?  Superboy pounding walls again?

Nope, no Superboy-wall-punching.

Leslie faked Steph's death.  When Bruce efectively exiled Leslie, Steph went with her, but ultimately decided to return to Gotham.

Ah, that crappy story about Leslie, a long time friend and confidant of Bruce Wayne turned murderer and someone he couldn't trust.  Hated that story.  Didn't know she faked Stephanie's death.
