Why are we assuming Walt Simonson isn't being used to his fullest potential? Because he's not on books WE want to buy? The guy has been writing World of Warcraft for two years, his work was featured in Wednesday Comics, and he's currently writing the new Vigilante series.
Think about that for a second.
I'm working on my mind-reading skills, but maybe Walt Simonson just wants to do work that isn't affected by a million other titles? Would it be cool to see him on Wonder Woman or Superman or JSA or Green Lantern Corps? SURE! But every other month he'd be interrupted by the event du jour, which (sadly or not) is par for the course these days. So maybe, to compromise, he's taken work that interests HIM and that allows HIM to have a little more creative freedom?
Just because someone isn't doing Superman every month, or FF, doesn't mean they're not being used to their full potential. Would YOU want to work on Superman right now? You'd be drawing Nightwing and Flamebird and Guardian and Mon-El if you were, because Superman's on New Krypton.

Because he isn't drawing anything, other than covers.

I'm sure if they'd wanted work, they'd have it. There's no way Walt Simonson would not be drawing a monthly if he wanted to. I don't believe that at all.

Hey guys, my first post. I joined a few days before this topic arouse but I messed up my registration. Anyway, I wanted to say thanks to everyone for the kind words! And, BTW, I wish Walt was drawing it too!
Also, I'm thrilled to see all the JB commissions! Huge WOW! I've been a fan since the Rog 2000 days and hooked ever since. In fact, almost all my early drawings mimic John. Later I got into Frank Miller's mood and drama. I loved Walt Simonson's work. Very powerful and I enjoy how he incorporates typography into his storytelling. John Buscema and Frank Frazetta probably creep in quite a bit but a mainstay for me is Byrne.
I'm sure it's been discussed to death, but there's never been an artist that can make ANY costume look cool the way John does. No one. Blah, blah, blah.
Hey, I'm thrilled to see and hear all the JB goodness. I'm so glad a friend let me know about this site!

Welcome to the JBF, DP. I was on the fence about whether or not I should give XFF a try, but the sample pages of your art I saw provided the necessary nudge.

Welcome Dan! I had no idea you were such a big Byrne fan. Like the say, "the more, the merrier" or something like that.

Tim Townsend and I argue over who's more of a Byrne fan. I'm a year older, so... I'll always have him beat!

He's been working on a graphic novel for the past few years. The problem with doing graphic novels is that you're taken out of circulation while working on them.
