I loved this cover, and just the name "Doom Patrol" sounds sooooo cool

NEW TEEN TITANS 13 was my intro and lifelong adoration of/to the Doom Patrol. Say anything else about Marv Wolfman and George Perez, but without them I don't know if anybody remembers the DP. Of course, in one way if the DP had been forgotten, we wouldn't have gotten Grant Morrison's "take". Brit comic book writers go home!

Some of my other strong fave intros:

The Hulk, bought from a 7/11 spinner rack. The first comic I ever chose for myself (not given me.)

The FF, and wouldn't you know the cover was a swollen lie (since the story inside has nothing to do with the cover.) Conversely, this ish reprints a Lee/Kirby story "Bedlam at the Baxter Building!" which was my first Lee/Kirby read! Alas, I always wanted to see this cover's Fantastic Four actually team up as the FF for a while. Might have been very entertaining.

The Unknown Soldat, a weird buy for me as I was a kid who'd never read more than one Sgt. Rock comic. But it was impossible not to pick up an issue with a mummy-faced dude fighting a grizzly with a little knife. Don't recall the story, but the cover content was unforgettable! Kubert, natch.

P.S. - Is it me, or did Marvel covers always seem to have more pop & pizzaz than DC covers, especially during the '70s?  Some of those DC examples above seem positively quaint by comparison!

Edit:  I am by no means dissing that Kubert "Soldier" cover!  He and Perez are exceptions to my question!

You know, I could post covers of comics where I first saw Superman or Batman or Spider-Man  in print, but I was introduced to all of them via television. Electric Company, George Reeves, Adam West/Hanna Barbara.

It's weird to imagine I didn't have any idea who/what Spider-Man was before the Electric Company. And yet when I read a Spider-Man comic book after that, I recognized Spider-Man as the exact same character. Good luck doing that with today's movie/comics versions!

Uncanny X-Men 142 - Terry Austin

This was my very first "modern" X-Men (I came late to the game with these guys)... needless to say, I didn't have the first f---ing clue what the hell was going on in this issue!!!

I'm sorry, but this thread is a helluva lot of fun!  The grab-bag of covers is a blast to look through!  Here are a few more, for good measure:

My first exposure to Captain Marvel, after the "Shazam!" TV show:

Super-Team Family 6 - Ernie Chan

My first Teen Titans (I'm pretty sure I asked my parents for this one, after seeing Debra Winger on the "Wonder Woman" episodes!):

Teen Titans 44 - Ernie Chan

A nostalgic favorite (always loved BL's original costume):

Black Lightning 1977 1st Series 4

Back to Marvel again...

My first Nick Fury!

Marvel Two-In-One 26

My first Eternals (and my first Kirby!)... I dog-eared this one to death!

Eternals 1976 1st Series 14

And, um, my first Red Sonja.  I was obsessed with this issue, for many "unhealthy" reasons for a 5-year old at the time.

Red Sonja 3 - Frank Thorne
