I loved this cover, and just the name "Doom Patrol" sounds sooooo cool NEW TEEN TITANS 13 was my intro and lifelong adoration of/to the Doom Patrol. Say anything else about Marv Wolfman and George Perez, but without them I don't know if anybody remembers the DP. Of course, in one way if the DP had been forgotten, we wouldn't have gotten Grant Morrison's "take". Brit comic book writers go home! Some of my other strong fave intros: The Hulk, bought from a 7/11 spinner rack. The first comic I ever chose for myself (not given me.) ![](uploads/ChadCarter/2009-12-15_194559_quintronic_man.jpg)
The FF, and wouldn't you know the cover was a swollen lie (since the story inside has nothing to do with the cover.) Conversely, this ish reprints a Lee/Kirby story "Bedlam at the Baxter Building!" which was my first Lee/Kirby read! Alas, I always wanted to see this cover's Fantastic Four actually team up as the FF for a while. Might have been very entertaining. ![](uploads/ChadCarter/2009-12-15_195124_FF_different.jpg)
The Unknown Soldat, a weird buy for me as I was a kid who'd never read more than one Sgt. Rock comic. But it was impossible not to pick up an issue with a mummy-faced dude fighting a grizzly with a little knife. Don't recall the story, but the cover content was unforgettable! Kubert, natch. ![](uploads/ChadCarter/2009-12-15_201049_unknown_soldier_first.jpg)
