That's what I loved about BATMAN & CAPTAIN AMERICA! Pure fun from start to finish! Out of all the things you've done, Mr. Byrne, It's in my top three favorites!

Alas, when many people try to do "fun" comics nowadays, it comes across as a spoof.

I loved Batman & Captain America too! It was so cool when they squared off in their civilian guises only for both to realize "Hey! This is...!"

Plus the plot was pretty cool too. Red Skull is always a great villain, but Joker's whole "American" thing was clever and funny, which is something that I think the Joker should be even when he's being serious, if that makes sense.

Ahhh... fun comics. Where can a fellah get more of those?

To tell the truth if I had to I'd SETTLE for goofy if it were a real option. Which it's apparently NOT, as Kid Devil's Zoo Crew comics and Marvin Wendy and Wonder Dog attest. But if it were I'd probably pay money for it and count myself lucky. 60% is better than 21%. But as things stand I can't pay money for only 21% of what made me like comics. I started reading super hero comics again in summer of 2003 and just gave up and quit reading them again in spring of 2008. If they were goofy (instead of absurd and masturbatory and grotesque) I might be able to enjoy them more.

Who watches the Watchmen? Well, you know what? Nobody should NEED
to.

But that's when in Rome, Arc.

When in Metropolis, Superman has you covered. Period.

JB:  What kind of scenario do you envision where Batman is incapable of defeating Galactus?

My
Batman could certainly beat Galactus.  The Bruce Wayne that I know is ready for anything.  And if he isn't ready, he gets ready.  He's Batman.

That reminds me of one of my favorite Batman moments:

The question was worth asking. But it didn't need to become the only question.

Because I'm very, very old, I rediscovered comics in the mid-Eighties. I loved Born Again, Swamp Thing, Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, and Byrne's FF, Hulk, Alpha Flight and Superman. It may not be a very wide spectrum - it's all superheroes - but it does cover both sides of the corridor we're talking about here.

Fun can still be found in superhero comics, although it's not as widely available as it was then; the glumness isn't as good as the smaller amount of glumness then was; and things are happening in the mainstream which, if the industry was more successful (so that kids were reading comics, and parents saw what was being read), could break it.

IMP.

...

This is meant with all the "seriousness" I can muster...

Johnny Storm hands the Ultimate Nullifier to Batman instead of Reed, and Batman gets to hold it up to Galactus to chase him away.

------------------------------------------------------------ -

It's Christmas and Galactus has just received the latest version of Guitar Hero for his Xbox. Batman challenges Galactus to a head-to-head on the Allman Borthers Band's classic song Jessica. Agreeing to set aside the Power Cosmic for six minutes of fret-fraying fun, Galactus is soundly beaten by Batman, whose fingers fit the buttons better.
