THIS is why I still hold out that John Byrne is still the best (ok - "my favorite") comic book artist still active.

This is also why I mourn that Mr. Byrne no longer is involved with Marvel.  JB and Marvel characters go together like peas and carrots (to wax Forrest Gumpy).

Yes, I know that the current Marvel no longer resembles that which I loved (and Byrne depicted (and still depicts through commissions).  But I would go for an Avengers Forever or a Fantastic Four Forever or an Original X-Men Forever or a Doctor Strange Forever or a Defenders Forever or an anything Forever.

Why let Chris Claremont have all the fun?

I left out an additional ending parenthesis.  So there.)

Great job, as always, JB.

Does anyone else feel a little sad when you see these great commissions knowing (but hoping) that we'll probably never see these characters the way they're supposed to be in an on-going comic?

I certainly do. I'm a huge advocate of the brilliant work that went into establishing Marvel's universe and characters, and have been a fan since the earliest '70s but just can't bear to read their current output - far too dim, dismal and derivative all round.

My fondest delusion is that Marvel are following a long-term strategy, and having persistently broken all their toys to gain some temporary attention, they'll give back what we're all actually missing - great fun stories with a decent premise, solid characterisation, internal consistency, and plenty of long-missed old-school creativity.

Though, as I say, I may be delusional .....
