Working on these pieces has served to make me even more aware of how
shoddy has been the treatment of Hank Pym by Marvel. I mean, look at
these drawings. We tend to think of Captain America as Mr. Avenger, but it's
really Hank who has been a mainstay of the team -- indeed, both teams,
east and west coast -- for much of their history.

So, BOO, Marvel! Very definitely, BOO!!

GREAT WORK although I'm not really a fan of some of those characters.

Always love the Avengers (the old team, not the pseudo teams of today!!)  That is a really great piece.  Any chance we could see the two pieces together?

Awesome!
I always have a problem with which Wonderman to go with. I love the original costume. But if Beast is gonna be around, I always have to have the red jacket!

Great job - the Swordsman and Mantis joined just about the time I started reading comics, so of course I'm going to love this one JB!

As for Hank Pym - yes, he was broken for quite some time by Shooter when he had his breakdown and hit Jan, but the character was pretty successfully rehabbed over the years to the point where he was a viable  member for quite some time.  Until Chuck Austen  got a hold of him and drug him back through the mud.  They're doing some interesting things with him again in Mighty Avengers, but I still don't like him in his Wasp persona, I'd much prefer 1. Ant-Man, 2. Goliath, 3.  Dr.  Pym or 4. Yellowjacket.

As for Clint Barton/Hawkeye/Goliath?(new identity which I can't force myself to name) - hey, we all know and love him as Hawkeye, so I say count them all under that name.

Absolutely stunning, JB. Love the Black Panther and Mantis. Sounds corny but I love the way you drew her bare feet.

Also, count me in as saying that the dot should go under Hawkeye.

I'm Speechless! I can't wait to see them in person!

I couldn't think of a better way to combine my love of JB's art with my favorite super hero group then with this Masterpiece!

I always wondered how JB's version of certain Avengers characters would look, so it is with child like nostalgia to see such heores of the past get New Life breathed into them through these commissions.

It was a tough choice who not to include in these pieces, as I tried to keep it to 5 characters per piece. I didn't want to ask for multiple versions of Iron Man's armor or the Wasp's outfits which changed every few issues it seemed. Even though I asked for different personas of Hank Pym and Clint Barton, I felt it was justified since they became completely different characters who typified certain eras of Avengers lore. Those who were considered but didn't make the cut: Giant Man, Hercules, Black Widow (fishnet outfit), Hawkeye (skirt outfit) and Moondragon.

A Big Thank You to Jim Warden for hooking up this commission request, and of couse to JB for choosing to undertake these involved pieces! My walls will be graced with these pieces for years to come!
