JB>> Edy's Vanilla Avalanche ice cream. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * So you were the one who was eating that ice cream. I've worked at Edy's for fifteen years and that is the one flavor that I was surprised didn't last longer than it did.

Does Drake's not distribute to the West Coast? I know that, when my sister visits us from California, we always send her back with a huge "care" package of Yodels (nothin' says love like calories 'n' cholesterol), which are abundant here in NY.

I remember as a Teen my big Friday night treat was a couple of packets of Walkers (Lays I think elsewhere) barbeque flavoured crisps and a can of Diet Coke. Hmmmmm. Those crisps have long since gone. I am so jealous of all these wierd and wonderful sounding snacks in this thread. I used to get the same feeling about those strange cakes Spider-Man used to eat in adverts... to this day I have no idea the consistency of those items. (Nor do I know what a Twinky looks or tastes like.) Wish I did. :-(

Don't know that there's actually a pop-sicle brand ...... Nope, Popsicle is a real brand and when done right no one can touch them when it comes to frozen flavored water stuff on a stick. Y'know - that natural fruit juice thing ticked me off so much that I even wrote them a letter suggesting a "Classic Popsicle" line. Of course they never bothered to respond, but I hold out hope that someday I'll be able to enjoy one of those artifical cherry Popsicles again.

Well, at least one part of my childhood hasn't disappeared yet: Still find them at my local Safeway, but long outgrown the craving for them. One food item that's disappeared from my area is Spinach Bagels... Can't seem to find any shop that makes them.

how about the banana FLIP snack cake, as opposed to the lesser banana dream? And speaking of chips, anybody ever ron across Tom's Vinegar and Dill pickle chips? Found them in the vending machine at work once, loved them, then the company switched vendors. I'm beginning to think I imagined the whole thing.

Couple more:Frosty Root BeerStrawberry and Grape Nehi (agree with others who mentioned these)Boston Baked BeansTootsie Roll Drops (small pieces of sucking candy with tootsie roll inside) Also, I have no idea what the cereal was called, but in the early 70's there was an awesome sugar cereal with wacky characters all over the box - they gave out magnets as the prizes for some time.....and then, poof! gone. edited - just found it by searching online - they were called FREAKIES! Also loved Booberry cereal - hard to find!

QUOTE:
Yodels and Ring Dings. I'm not sure if it was Drake's or Hostess who put 'em out, but they were my go-to sweet stuff instead of most of the Tastykake products. I think a company called Entenmann's puts out imitations in my area these days, but they pale in comparison. |

Drake's is owned by Interstate Bakeries Corporation (IBC), which also owns Hostess, which is why you can now see essentially the same products, Yodels/Ho Hos and Ring Dings/Ding Dongs, in Hostess boxes in some areas, but they are also marketed under the Drake's label. Also, in some areas Ding Dongs are called King Dons so as not to be confused with Ring Dings, but they used to be called Big Wheels. (?)
And IBC also owns Dolly Madison, so now Zingers bear the Hostess logo in some markets, too.

You can find boxes of bite sized and regular Charlston Chews at Walgreen's. They are manufactured by Tootsie Roll Industries.
Cookie Crisp cereal is now produced by General Mills (used to be produced by Ralston-Purina. Never liked seeing the logo from pet food on my cereal box.) And I see Tastee-Freez available at some Weinerschnitzel hot dog restaurants, and apparently the Tastee-Freez restaurant is back, too.
