I believe i remember our host saying he liked the idea of Logan being old enough to have done WW2, though not much older than that.

This is from X-Men Forever 7 (Which has by the way a nice  Sgt Fury & Logan  "The Brave & The Bold" type of cover by Tom Grummett inked by Terry Austin.)

The interior art is by Steve Scott, the words are by Chris Claremont:

••

As I recall, circa 1978 I suggested Logan was around 50 years old. Which would mean he was born in 1928 -- making him 11 when the War started.

Mmm...

That makes him a few years older...

At least he is Logan (Not James Howlett) and Canadian.

For me i am relatively happy to have the occasion to get WW2 stories with him and Fury. Of course back in 1990 Claremont has already done The Knights of Madripoor issue of Uncany with Logan and Captain america, and i thought that was what you were talking of.

It is true that a 50 years old Logan in 78 was a cool idea that made sense.

Mmmm..

Bucky & Logan team up....  would have been cool too.

The fact that Wolverine has met just about every Marvel character over his long, long, looooong life makes him just about the most social character out there. What a swell guy. The best at what he does.... and what he does is network.

This Wolverine though is probably not as old as the one in the main books.

And he wont develop much more his social network: he is dead.

Logan & Nick Fury in WWII...and the Marvel Universe just got that much smaller.  Perhaps Logan fought with Chewbaaca & Yoda during the Clone Wars?!?

Actually, Yoda was Logan's Padawan.

How long do you really think that's going to last?

I'm not buying X-MEN FOREVER because this group at this time was a team I didn't like way back when so I have no real interest in seeing their adventures now.  That said, knowing the popularity of Wolverine, then and now, he won't be dead for long.  It would put the lie to the entire project if he was, quite frankly, in that this is supposed to be the X-Man Claremont would have written had he continued with the title.  Given that, there's not a chance in hell Marvel would have let one of their biggest characters remain dead for an extended period of time.  If he is dead for years in X-MEN FOREVER, then it's not a realistic project based on the premise.

Matt: Forever takes the things from where Claremont left, but to tell new stories.

It is true that back then he wanted to kill Wolverine for a year and that editorial refused. For the reasons you said it was not acceptable to them.

But X-Men Forever isn't bound by the same rules as the main books.

I don't know if Claremont will bring Wolverine back or not. I can imagine he eventualy will if he has new interesting stories he wants to tell about him when all the interesting stuff resulting from his death will be done, but for now Claremont said he considers death as a begining rather than a end. I interpret those words as being about the impact of his death on the other characters.

Also it makes room for the other characters.

So far i'ld say that Cyclops is pretty well writen in Forever, and believe me a well writen Cyclops is something i missed in a long time.
