I just re-read it tonight. It was a two-parter where Namor finally had to use the Black Knight's ebony blade to kill Marrina (igniting the blood curse on Dane Whitman- The blade was forbidden from drawing blood) The first page has Namor shouting "No harm shall befall my beloved wife so long as I live!" (or somesuch) In the two issues the Avengers tried everything they could to avoid killing her, but in her protoform (?) she was endangering human sailors, and it was stated that there were casualties. But that's the sticking point for me, Simonson wrote a story where the HEROES tried their best to help the transformed Marrina, but in this recent X-Men issue they just attack with intent to kill. Wolverine stabs her in the eye, Nightcrawler throws a bomb down her throat, and some other mutant electrocutes her. There wasn't much talk at all about 'finding another way'. SuperHEROES from the comics I used to read would always try to find the alternative before taking a life. Crap, man. I remember the X-Men risking their lives to save Jean from Lilandra's Executive Decision in #137. (note- at the end of the Avengers issue it is revealed thet Marrina had a clutch of eggs that hatched and at least three figures are seen swimming off. Namor vows to search for them, but in Captain America #365 December 1989 (Acts of Vengeance tie-in co-incidentally enough!) we see Namor swimming along and thinks "The Earth's seas cover three quarters of the planet. I am but one man! It is conceivable I could spend the rest of my life in search of the alien spawn of my late wife, my beloved Marrina, and never find them! Perhaps it is time I--" Then he is cut off by Loki who approaches him to join the bad guys.
