When Disney came out with FANTASTIA 2000, they included a segment that was animated in the style of Al Hirschfeld drawings. Here's hoping Disney/Pixar comes up with an animated Marvel movie done in the style of Jack Kirby! I'd pay almost anything to see a 1960's retro version of THE FANTASTIC FOUR! Or maybe a Steve Ditko-inspired DR. STRANGE! The mind boggles...

I think that Disney buying Marvel is a classic case of "If you can't beat them, buy them". Disney has been trying to appeal to boys for a while now by trying to break into the superhero/sci-fi/fantasy/action/adventure genre. I think that Disney signing the deal with Stan Lee's POW Entertainment company to develop new action/adventure property's for Mouse House was a clear sign that they were going to buy Marvel.

The CNN Money headline:Pow! Bam! Are takeovers back?Will there ever be a comic related story or movie review where the 60's Batman series is not invoked ?? ++ I don't understand the problem. Comics use sound effects, the Batman show didn't create them from thin air. •• Should ALL comicbooks be defined in the public mind by ZAP! POW! BAM! Is that really ALL they have to offer?

For what it's worth, Don Rosa did a commission for me that had Uncle $crooge in it and he sells prints of parodized versions of old comic covers recast with the Disney ducks at conventions, so there may not be anything to worry about.

Nope, but the "Disney Princess" branding has been very, very lucrative for Disney. There's not a comparable line for boys' clothing, books and merchandise, so getting a license for Disney's stores to carry Iron Man and Spider-Man stuff is a chance to tap into the audience that's "too old" for Mickey Mouse and Buzz Lightyear but still young enough to want toys and cool-looking t-shirts.

I am finding this news to be very curious but, as has already been said several times in this thread, it remains to be seen whether all the speculation turns out to come true or just remain as unfounded rumors fueled by peoples' hopes or fears. For all we know, nothing changes. Joey Q remains in charge, Marvel continues publishing shock-effect crossover "events" in which the characters we all grew up with act like characters in a B-grade thriller movie and we get the same basic murky style of art in every title no matter who's moving the pencils and pens. Not a very optimistic outlook, I know. I just accept that the days when you could pick up a Marvel comic, enjoy reading it and get some of the deeper themes being hinted at in it and still be able to let your kids read it are gone.

I'd like to say it doesn't affect me because I don't really collect Marvel anymore.But it affects comics as a whole very much, and I collect comics from other companies, so... how is this going to affect me?

Completely based on nothing, I could see them with an all-ages comic line, to sell in theme parks and Disney stores and with toys and to grandparents, and a separate publication wing for "mature" content, like they do with the movies.
If that's the case, Wolverine is over, folks. No wayDisney allows a character with the same name threaten to cut people inthe movies, and be in an all-ages comic.
Pure speculation based on having two kids grow up over the last 19 years with their stuff.

I wonder which Marvel property will be run through the Bruckheimer machine? Captain America seems to be the most obvious to me yet doesn't Paramount have dibs on that one?
