Also a good point by JB - what happened there was a retcon. THIS in Spider-Man was planned from the get go.

Wouldn't it have been easier for Alicia Masters to just leave Johnny?  She had to be a Skrull?

I don't get it.

Now don't get me wrong it is very unethical of Chameleon to sleep with someone's wife or to get someone to sleep with him. This by definition though isn't what rape is…

••

The Chameleon used the equivalent of a date-rape drug. He tricked the girl into having sex with him. How is that not rape?

======================

It would have been a lot easier!  Made a lot more sense to.  A little bit of overthinking it seems on Tom's part.

DeFalco used a "comicbook" solution to a real world problem. Always a cop-out.

I have to think so, too. It looks like DeFalco didn't actually want to bother with characterization.

So DeFalco assumed that people couldn't handle a break up of two characters without there being an underhanded reason for it (her being a Skrull)?

It all just sounds really lazy on his part.

Honestly, I think it was more than DeFalco thought that Alicia leaving Ben and hooking up with Johnny was out of character for her.  (I disagree with that, but I think that was his perspective).  And so he came up with an explanation for why she was acting differently than he thought she should be:  it wasn't her.

I thought Alicia and Johnny was out of her thus far established character, but I thought that things like that DO happen and remained confident JB would do all the involved parties justice.
DeFalco's Scrull solution was just ridiculous, no matter if his not liking the concept of Johnny and Alicia together was justified or not.

Hmmm...I think I'd prefer the reason of laziness.

Lyja (Skrull-Alicia) was one of the many awesome Marvel characters from that era. Right up there with Cable and Bloodwulf.
