Captain Power by JB

reminded to me Supergirl/Matrix when she believed she was Superman.

I liked that homage to those Superman stories! Indeed, it made me wish to search for them.

I should mention what a Fantastic job JB did picking Four members of the Legion to fight Superman!

I didn't pick 'em. When I came to the Legion, I didn't have a clue. As I recall, Carlin picked 'em. Possibly Carlin and Levitz.

That's just… sad. Reminds me of the time Batman was swinging over Gotham and for no particular reason thought to himself "Here's a little stunt I've been doing since long before a certain web-slinging Peter-come-lately."

Yeah! And my dad can beat up your dad!

Bravo to them, then!  It was a nice idea, and something that really surprized me--though it seems obvious now!

I wonder if DC received complaints about similarities to Spider-Man? Just wondering. It seems immature, in any case.

DC did a revival of the Wanderers back in I think the late 80s.  In the revival, they were something of a remixing of several members of the X-Men's powers and personalities.

I can't remember all of their names right now, but the field leader had near imortal healing factor, while using a gun that fired a red beam.  The big guy on the team had porcupine abilities, that included a few of the needles being on the backs of his hands somewhat clawlike.  There was a short acrobatic elf with a sword that cut through most anything.  One member could turn into various types of flying creatures, and had hollow bones even in his human form.  one female had mental powers, and the other had light based powers, but also had a "dark" side effect.  They were all mentored by the computerized brain pattern based on one of the Controllers, who of course showed up as a floating bald head.

Not homage, but the Inferior Five did parodies of the Hulk and Thor.  And one of their members, Awkwardman, was himself a parody of the Beast.

Speaking of the Inferior Five, how did DC get Marvel heroes to appear on this cover?

Once is parody, twice is infringement.

And Marvel was still very, very, very small back then!

Wasn't there an X-Men parody in Inferior 5 back then? I seem to recall a cover with school students resembling Iceman, Angel and the Beast.

And the "Americommando" imposter in Freedom Fighters was the Silver Ghost.
