I don't recall them ever suggesting Sabertooth was Nightcrawler's father - the only father candidates I remember are the baron, the demon from Hell and Mystique herself with Destiny as the mother. Sabertooth is the father of mutant hater Graydon Creed, another one of Mystique's children, so that might be what you were thinking of.

Mystique's his mother and...

••

Well, that's better than when Chris wanted to make Mystique his father.

Yeah, I think I remember something like that. Another reason to go and re-read those issues...

The thing of Kurt's invisibility powers that always perplexed me was that his costume also turned invisible. Never quite understood that one.

I always chalked it up to unstable molecules.

You guys are pickin git to death. I liked Kurt, don't care if he/it was logical, not a whit. It's all as "real" as a 10 year old saying a word and becoming the "Big Red Cheese" right in the room with four other people, and no one catching on. Love 'em both.

Not familiar with Captain Marvel's history. When did that happen?

I read SHAZAM Archives volume 1 reprinting the original appearances of Captain Marvel and I do recall there were a lot of instances where he would just suddenly call down the power of Shazam, turn into Captain Marvel and all the people around him would seem to not notice.

Yeah, I think the inference was the blinding flash "blinded them" to the change. He did do it in plain site many times though.

Man, I never knew that Nightcrawler had any invisibility powers whatsoever. The few times I saw him hiding in shadows, I thought it was just him being sneaky and taking advantage of his blue-black skin and mostly black costume. Guess that's what I get for having only read a handful of X-Men titles from that time.

As a kid, I liked the fact that he was a mutant whose nature was not easily hidden that allowed easy assimilation and who did look a little scary.

I guess all Nightcrawler's powers stem from or are connected to a need to be able to hide, escape, etc. Er, apart from the fangs.

I'm not doing it out of any dislike for the character whatsoever.  Between Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, John Byrne and Alan Davis, he's definitely one of my favorite X-characters.  It's just interesting that the premise of having an "X-tra power" can result in optic blasts, wings, ice powers, telekinesis, big feet, or the dozen-or-so abilities and mutations that Nightcrawler's got.
