Thing is, tho, why would Scott have any reason to think anything else? That scene was plotted as a reveal -- but, like the scene with Storm in the Savage Land, it became, when Chris wrote it, another character lecturing Scott. Scott! The last person on Earth who should ever need such lectures!

Was Kurt an unhappy "carnival freak," as established in GSM #1, or an
apparently happy acrobat, as mentioned in Bizarre Adventures 27?

Speaking of coloring issues, I've seen that for much of the Silver Age, the Scarlet Witch actually had Black hair. Was she supposed to be, or were those coloring errors? And at what point did she become a true redhead?

She is a red head now? Wanda had brown hair for decades! Oh, boy...
Then again, she IS a woman, she COULD have changed it.

When he was gray, the Beast was strong enough to go toe to toe with
Iron Man. He also healed from bullet wounds within seconds. He lost
these powers when his fur turned black.

It was later established that the original owner of the circus respected Nightcrawler and allowed him to work as an acrobat.  A later owner forced him to become a sideshow freak.

Even though he was before my time, I prefer the original non furry Beast to the blue furry Beast.

I detest cat Beast from Morrison's New X-Men run.

And the behind-the-scenes reason for that discrepancy is that Len Wein and Dave Cockrum disagreed about Nightcrawler's characterization.  Wein wanted him to be an unhappy freak, while Cockrum thought that was a cliche and felt it would be more original to have him be happy with his appearance and not tortured at all.  So the stories Cockrum did after Wein left worked to push him in that direction.

Because it was specially treated with a chemical solution of Superman's own devising to protect it from friction when moving at super speed. Unfortunately, it had the side effect of dyeing whatever material it was applied to either dark blue (suit) or red (tie). I am not making this up.
