At the risk of started yet another long-running blue/black debate...

Are the Beast and Nightcrawler black or blue? I know that the furry Beast
was originally gray, then black, but has that changed?

Beast during his running around with Wonder Man called himself blue and furry(?). During his girl crazy days in the Avengers.

I'd say Nightcrawler is blue as well. Blue has always been the dominant color on him.

Also, I believe the Beast is still blue, though still a "cat-man."

Both have been described as having blue fur, tho the Beast was gray when
he first turned furry, and Nightcrawler was not described as furry from the
outset.

The Beast turned blue for the same reason the Thing's eyes did -- it's easier
for the separators. (It can also be cheaper, since it involves no K-tones --
ie, grays.)

It pains me still, even decades later, that they transformed Hank McCoy into this beastly form. Why not make Peter Parker into a giant spider, or Tony Stark into a solid man of iron? Feh.

The Beast's transformation happened when Marvel was going thru its "monster" phase, the same period that gave us the Living Mummy, the Frankenstein Monster, Morbius, even IT, the Living Colossus. What puzzles me to this day is why, when the monster mood passed, Hank did not revert to "normal".

The furry Beast is my favorite X-Man.  I discovered him this way in the Avengers and have loved him ever since.

Not to mention the ever-lovin' Hulk. (Hulk! Hulk!)

Since that issue of AMAZING ADVENTURES has a March cover date, that means it would have hit the stands in December of 1971 (Merry Xmas!), so it's not at all surprising that the furry Beast is the "real" Beast to so many Marvelites. He's been that way, with only brief interruprions, for almost 38 years -- six times longer than he was otherwise.

Well, in this context, no, you wouldn't actually mention the Hulk. His switch to green was, according to Stan, based on the colorist for the first issue having "knocked out" one panel in green, and Stan preferring that color scheme when he saw it. So neither the separators not the piggy bank was an issue there.

He was back to looking human in early issues of X-Factor. I don't know if it was meant to be a permanent change or if him turning blue again was the plan all along, though.

That was quite a long time after Marvel got over its fascination with monsters.
