I remember that letter column about the hair colour / stripe. They ended the explaination with a mischievous question along the lines of 'Does she have white hair and dye it brown or does she have brown hair and dye a white stripe?'

Somehow that doesn't say "Rogue" to me. |

Hmmm...good point. I'd always taken that word to have something to do with 'thief' (thanks to D&D) but I looked it up on M-W.com and 'thief' is nowhere in the definition. It turns out that the names seems to have more to do with her (original) personality.

One problem I've long had with those panel from the first UNCANNY issue she appeared in is that Logan punches her in the face with his bare hand and nothing happens. If skin-to-skin contact is supposed to result in her absorbing the powers and memories, etc... of who she touches, Wolverine should've dropped like a sack of potatoes the instant his skin touched hers. Yet nothing happened.

Yes, the transfer is instantaneous. Rogue kisses her victims for the pleasure of it.

I also thought that the transferance time was dependant on how long Rogue had been in contact with the host. Wasn't the whole thing with Ms. Marvel's powers because they had been slugging it out for so long that they kept coming into contact?

The transfer is instantaneous, but not, evidently, the time it takes
for the victim to become unconscious. Wolverine wouldn't necessarily
have fallen instantly unconscious, but both he and Rogue should have
noticed something when his fist hit her face. She even says on that page that the merest touch will do; she says the same in her first appearance (posted on page 1 of the thread). The longer Rogue maintains contact, the longer she retains the victim's traits. Carol Danvers grappled with Rogue too long, thus making the transfer permanent.

Given Claremont's track record of "swiping" names/titles, I can't help but think he got the name "Rogue" from the Roy Scheider-Richard Dreyfuss dinner scene in JAWS.
"Logan" most likely came from a certain Sci Fi film of the late seventies, and "Days Of Future Past," well, just ask the Moody Blues.
