Asking that question touches on something from my early days. When I
was a kid, my father freelanced as an architect, in addition to his day job
at City Hall. He designed apartment buildings, mostly, and when he drew
the plans he would, as draftsmen do, tape down the corners of the large
sheets of tracing paper he used. From him I picked up this habit of taping
down the corners of the pages I was working on, which means I did,
indeed, learn to draw a lot of stuff upside down -- until it dawned on me
that my Dad's reason for taping down his pages was that he was using a
T-Square and several set squares, all of which had to be able to hit the
same parallel lines every time.
I did not have that problem, and it was with a great sigh of relief -- long
before I turned pro -- that I stopped taping down my pages.
--------------------
Thanks for sharing that anecdote! These little technical details are very
interesting to me.

I'll add that nowadays, when I use my light table or my Art-o-Graph to draw, say, the Enterprise in one of the STAR TREK books, I once again tape down the paper, so that there will be no "drift", and accompanying distortion, when I work.

First thought, before scrolling down, was this image:
I was getting an Austin vibe, before I read JB's Austin remark.
