Backgrounds do seem to have that Austin vibe going on. I just love the way you draw the Marvels, their uniforms(?) just have a majesty to them that others just don't capture.

Well, credit where credit is due. Spider-Man and Mary were from me, but I asked JB to pick the villain. (Glad I did - Mr. Mind was an inspired choice that never would have occured to me.)
Great job, JB! Thanks!

Absolutely. Was just going to post that very thing. I really love how you've "toned down" your line for the backgrounds. Really makes the image pop.
Your inks have really seemed to be doing some new things lately. Are you doing anything differently?

Wasn't expecting that. Figured it would be Forager from New Gods or maybe Bug of the Micronauts or Ambush Bug.
Almost didn't see Mr. Mind...So, is he in control of Spider-Man or Mary Marvel? Or is it just one of those superhero misunderstandings? hmm...

YEAH! The varying line quality leading to thin lines as depth is perceived. YEP!
(well that's how I see it, anyhoo.)
SWEET piece.
I, too, need a thesaurus. How many times can one say SWEET everytime a new commission is posted? I know the answer is in the question...

Your inks have really seemed to be doing some new things lately. Are you doing anything differently?•• Somewhat counter-intuitively, I have been playing around with the thinnest of the PITT pens, the Superfine point. (Find the thinnest line in the image, probably somewhere in the background, and that is the "natural" weight of the Superfine point.) This is actually something of a flashback. When I was a kid, and my Dad would borrow a set of Rapidiograph pens from the drafting department at City Hall for me to use on weekends, I preferred the thinnest point, even tho it meant a lot of back-and-forth strokes to get one line to be thicker than another. Same with this Superfine PITT nib. All the "brush strokes" you see in this image (and several other recent commissions) are "faked" by going back and forth filling out the variant line weight. Sort of my own version -- as Roger Stern noted years ago -- of what I call the "thousand line school".

Were the long sleeves a requested variation on Mary's costume, or is that just something you came up with, JB? I like that it makes her look more like the Captain, and less like a mascot.

The long sleeves date to the "redesign" I did on Mary during the five and a half minutes I was going to be doing a Captain Marvel monthly. Dave asked for that version in this piece.
