There are way to many stories that I associate Sal with to pin it down to just one, but his time on Incredible Hulk (with Ernie Chan), Captain America and Avengers (with Sam Grainger and Joe Staton) sure comes to mind.

And the other day I just re-read the Thing/Captain America/Guardians of the Galaxy issues of Marvel Two-in-One that he did.  Great, great stuff.

Here's one measure of Sal Buscema's greatness: He has drawn more Spider-Man comic books than any other artist in history.

His name tends to get forgotten in discussions of great Spider-Man artists, since he never worked on Amazing Spider-Man. But I'd personally put him up there with the all-time best.

Big Fan of Sal Buscema.

As for the comment praising Sal at the expense of other interpretations, I must disagree.  And reliance on Gary Frank's Hulk above is misplaced.  That looks like the Hulk to me.  "Not just some big guy in green body paint."

Disagree with ya on that one, Geoff.

Love Sal's work. The Sal/ Chan combo mentioned above was great, as was Sal/ Staton, and I even liked Sal/ Talaoc pairing.

Sal/ Janson was awesome. Probably my favorite.

The Buscema/Staton team was the first art team I was exposed to, since my first issue of Incredible Hulk was #202.  I was only 6 or 7 at the time, so I didn't have a ton of comics.  But that issue sticks out because Hulk had a girlfriend and I thought that was weird.

Geoff, I'm not a fan of Gary Frank's Hulk at all.  For me, it's Sal at the top, followed by Byrne, and then Dale Keown.

Gary Frank's Hulk is not my favorite either -- but I think he looks like the Hulk.  YMMV.

Here's one measure of Sal Buscema's greatness: He has drawn more Spider-Man comic books than any other artist in history.

Sal probably did about 120 issues of Spectacular Spider-Man (often inking his own stuff), only one issue of Amazing Spider-Man that I know of, and a fair amount of Marvel Team-Ups.  I'm not 100% sure that puts him ahead of Mark Bagley, who drew about 70 issues of Amazing Spider-Man and 100-plus issues of Ultimate Spider-Man.  If you throw in Sal's inking on Spider-Girl, though, that should put him over the top...

As far as total pages go, if you count pencils or inks, I wouldn't be surprised if Sal Buscema has passed Jack Kirby for total Marvel output.

As a kid growing up in the seventies, Sal was a great favourite of mine. Solid storytelling, and art that held up under any inker.

Huge fan of Sal. His Spectacular Spider-Man work is my personal favorite.  I'll be picking up this collection. Maybe even pinching a few extra pennies together for the sketch version.

When I think of timeless Incredible Hulk, I think of Sal, even before Kirby, Trimpe and even Byrne, it was our pal Sal who left the most indelible impression for me on the green behemoth.
