Great piece but just imagine if you had left him in that
costume there is no way he would have been as popular and
then been turned into the awful character he is today, oh
bitter irony.

I always did love the distinctive face you gave Logan. (Yes, Dave Cockrum created his face, but you improved on it!)•• Just out of curiosity, can you articulate what you think the differences were/are?

I like that the pulling of the collar in the commission is similar to what
Wolverine was doing the moment they got back to the school. He's back
in his original threads just in time for his run in with James MacDonald
Hudson.

They aren't major differences, but I think a lot of it is in the eyes....I just get a better sense out of your Logan that this is a man that has been through a lot in his life, and can snap at any time. I admit that this probably falls into the "eye of the beholder" category, no pun intended!
Nothing at all wrong with Dave's Logan, though. It's a brilliant look to begin with.

I, too, always liked the Fang costume. Maybe not the long sleeves, but the overall design of it I really dig.
Hard to believe it's been 2 years since this little series of commissions was announced.

That's a real beauty! Thanks!
Why does it make me slightly nervous to see the hand with claws 'in' pointed
at his throat? Hope the tree pollen count was low that day...
Is it all in my head/just me or do you do things like that to purposely create
tension?

Since Vinny has responded, I would like to add a comment.
You've said before that one of the things you strove for early on, to differentiate yourself, was "a turn of the wrist." And I think one of the things you do best is nuanced facial expressions. Your characters really say a lot with their facial expressions, more than most artists out there. They can look like they're thinking, or angry, or sad, or all three combined at the same time.
Dave Cockrum was a powerful artist, no doubt about it, but I think you win out on nuanced facial expressions. I think it's one of the main reasons people like and care about the characters you draw.

Congrats, Atilla! That's a nice looking Wolverine,
though I'm not a fan of the costume he's wearing either.
(X23 shouldn't exist, but Alan Davis did an excellent job
job of drawing her in those threads.)
yeah I can't believe this costume got resurrected

As a kid, I fell in love with the back issues of X-Men that JB and Dave did. I acquired as many as I could. One of the coolest things early on, was the Alpha Flight 17 cover that JB did vs. the X-Men 109 cover Dave did. Dave's was dynamic and great, but JB's was much more detailed and looked a little more formed to me. I loved both, but JB's spoke to me more. Same with the interiors. When I look at Dave's work, the characters seem "wide" to me. A little rougher. JB's was more dynamic in that it seemed more detailed and for lack of better phrase, "less rough." But the most interesting thing is still that even though they had different styles, you could tell they were the same character. Something most artists today, IMO, don't consider terribly important.

Even knowing the Wolverine commissions were being shown, I instinctively avoided this topic. Love it, looking forward to the rest!

____________
Dave drew Logan's face as crazy madman..you gave it something more feral..especially at the end of X-Men 139 when he tells Mac he would be glad to work for him. That face was the spooky theat Kitty talked about. You also give him age...you can tell that Logan is deifnitley older than the rest of the X-Men we just don't know how much older
