Great series, I've looked forward to each post. I'd have to go with the first one as my favorite, it's totally different from all the other Wolverine commissions.

This looks so right and samurai swords, although an interesting interpretation, always looks so wrong to me.•• The "Samurai Sword" claws have made no sense to me from the moment I first saw them. Not only wildly off-model (and therefore "cool" and almost instantly adopted by everyone), but nonsensical in context. The cutting edge would be on the top of the blade, forcing Wolverine to make all his slashes backhanded!

JB, all of those Wolverine pieces are great but that last one tops them all!
I too can't stand the "Samurai Sword" claws. They may give Wolverine a distinctive look relative to his days in Japan but, to me, the curved and tapered claws are the standard.

The last one looks great. Is it wrong for me to actually miss that cigar now that Marvel characters are not supposed to smoke?

Question for JB - I too prefer the classic claws to the samurai version, but often wondered, how far down does the
"razor sharp" go? Do you picture Wolverine's claws only
sharp at the tip or are they razor sharp the entire inside
edge?

I used to imagine that Wolverine's claws tapered more or less to infinity. Their points were literally fine enough to slice between atoms. It's really the only way to explain how even something as tough as adamantium could slice thru steel with nothing more driving it than strong (admittedly very strong) muscles.

Uh oh. I hope some new hotshot writer doesn't take this interesting idea to its illogical conclusion and have Wolverine being able to slice 11 dimensional super strings! Grant Morrison, stay away.
