"I think Dave Cockrum did the world a big favour when he changed the headgear, as I really didn't like the original, but here you make it work."
=====================================================
I think that's one of JB's super powers. I've noticed that costumes that don't work for me actually look really good when JB draws them. I don't know how he does it!

Roger Stern used to say the same thing. He first paid me the compliment when I was doing THE CHAMPIONS and had to draw an ugly costume belonging to a villain known as "Rampage" ("The Recession Era Villain Who Could Be You!")

I thought Cockrum definitely improved the headgear. The original can
look like an unfortunate haircut from a bad angle. Or maybe I'm just
used to the what became the final version.
This commission does the original design proud, though. I think this
head-on shot is the best way to look at the head gear. And he's
definitely putting his best foot forward in this one -- literally. I love the
boot design!
JB, you seem to capture the headgear better than most. It looks cool and
realistic when you do it - I can't stand when some artists render it like
gigantic mouse ears.

Mr. Byrne. What's the rule (your rule) for hair on Logan's arms? I prefer to
see him with it but sometimes he has it and sometimes he doesn't.
I once read a book where Logan had to cut his hair for some reason and the
healing factor brought it back within minutes.
JB, do you agree with this application of his healing power?

I have to agree that is the first time I liked the old
mask.

Geez was that stupid, hair is DEAD, if his healing factor
did that why wouldn't he constantly have a full beard.

Mr. Byrne. What's the rule (your rule) for hair on Logan's arms? I prefer to see him with it but sometimes he has it and sometimes he doesn't. •• Thrice Told Tale (at least!): Wolverine was originally drawn with no hair on his arms when in costume. Dave would draw him as somewhat hirsute when out of costume, but the hair disappeared once the costume was on. I wondered at the time if he was supposed to have flesh colored sleeves or something, like the tights Burt Ward wore as Robin. When I was assigned to the book I asked about drawing him with hairy arms when in costume, and was told no, no way, absolutely not, stay on model! Then George Perez drew a cover, gave him hairy arms in costume, and as far as I was concerned the gloves -- or more correctly, the sleeves -- were off. From that point he just kept getting hairier. The notion that his arm hair would grow back instantly if cut is, to used a technical term, silly, A sadly typical example of what happens when people who really shouldn't try to get "clever".

Those "muzzle" lines were kind of cool.

Er yeah... muzzles lines... that's the ticket!
