There has never been an S on the belt. Mainly because there has been a rather gigantic S on the chest and another on the cape. But, if these aren't good reasons to call it stupid, maybe he could have it on tatoos, on the boots and why not have his red shorts have as many little S's as Wonder Woman has stars?

I don't think the 'S' is on the belt in the regular series. The only places I have seen it are the Superman/Batman title, which is out of continuity, and the cover that was posted here, which I believe is by the artist from the Superman/Batman title. I don't think its a consistent, mandated change to the costume.
Dick does have the bat buckle, but I interpreted that more as the artists finding subtle ways to make his costume look slightly different than Bruce's, like the minor cosmetic differences between Barry and Wally's Flash costumes.

I think the recent deaths have been set up for Blackest Night, yes. Probably not as far back as Identity Crisis, but perhaps a year to two ago. Definately since Martian Manhunter.
The Black Lanterns have some of the most powerful beings in the DC universe in their corps. I kind of like the idea of a Black Lantern Corp. I just don't like the idea that they are undead zombies and some of the character assassination going on. For example, Black Hand was the black sheep of the family. Now he's a mass murderer?
Look, I'm complaining about character assassination of a bad guy. Well, the bad guys have to be worse than the "good" guys I guess. Wonder Woman only killed one person.

"There has never been an S on the belt. "
So your aregument is your fear that if they will put it on the belt they will go so far as to put the it all over his underwear? Are you serious? Do you really think that is a legitimate concern?
Well, if it makes you feel better, now there has been an S on superman's belt, and the world has yet to come to an end.

i think the fact that someone would call superman's trunks "underwear" tells us all we need to know about feeling anything about the costume is to be respected.

now there has been an S on superman's belt, and the world has yet to come to an end.
Why do folks feel the need to be contrary just to do it? The small s on the buckle shouldn't be there. If you take it to another level, you can think about Superman himself, whose costume is not garish, but more designed for quick recognition (harkening back to the time of the circus strongman, who could be spotted by the throngs from a distance). The recognition factor includes the big S on the chest (coming) and the yellow S on the cape (going.)
So Superman is instaneously recognized by any citizen or police or military when he swoops into the middle of the action.
Now, what possible, conceivable purpose would Superman have in putting a little S on his belt buckle? You can't really see it from a distance. It's indicative of a egotist, which Superman isn't (or shouldn't be portrayed as.) Is it big S for the Man, little S for his c*ck? It's not needed...the little S is a bad idea by the same tards who have Wolverine's claws sticking out between his knuckles or the Hulk 20 feet tall and wide.

I am really glad I included the "red shorts" thing in my post. Even if I had done it on purpose, as bait, it couldn't have been more successful. Superman's shorts considered and described as underwear is really indicative of what the person saying/writing it really feels about superheroes. And anyway, how many underwear do these people actually know that have belts and belt slots on them?!?

The "S" emblem on his belt just looks stupid.

How do you know that's what he's doing? Maybe it just really doesn't bother him. Is he not allowed to state his opinion?

BJ is the one who asked what the problem is. He received several answers and still went on, rather haughtily, as if to suggest there isn't a problem.

That's because, in his opinion (and mine), there ISN'T a problem. The only answers he was given are that
1) it looks stupid, which is obviously a subjective opinion 2) it's redundant, even though the symbol on his cape is already redundant, and 3) it was never there before, which is true just like Batman's costume never had a yellow oval until it did and the Fantastic Four's costumes were blue up until they weren't and so on
No, there is certainly no NEED to have the S-shield on Superman's belt and it comes from nothing other than the whim of whatever artist introduced it. But the design of Superman's belt buckle is not an integral part of the character or the mythos, and is about the most miniscule costume change there can be.
