On that All-Star Superman cover:

The number of lines isn't what makes a drawing great.  I don't think Alex Toth was a slacker because he didn't lay as many lines on the page as Rob Liefeld did.  Quitely knew that the piece in question was going to be colored, and I'm assuming he knew what kind of look he wanted on the piece, and I don't see how the final product would've been improved by adding a hundred extra lines on the cover.

"Original art" is a whole different ballgame in the computer era.

I don't mind a penciller and colorist collaborating like that. Why not take advantage of technology. I just don't like crap like that JRJr Wizard cover. That crossed the line!

I mean, really -- who needs all that ink and drawing when you can
just zip out a few lines, trace a Jay Leno face, and then let the colorist make
it look so darn real? Grandeur? Pffft, I say -- gimme a talented colorist over
a good artist any day!

Frank Quitely colored that piece.

Well, part of Morrison's stated intent on the Batman
and Robin series...and how this pans out, we'll see....is
to return the book to a previous era, as Dick isn't as
dark a character as Bruce, and Damien, while a brat,
isn't particularly dark either....Damien was raised by
the League of Assassins, guided by Talia, and so his
father, Bruce, was spoken of as some kind of legendary,
nigh mythical figure. So he completely idolizes his
father....a 10 year old raised by adult assassins in a
lair in Southeast Asia

That doesn't really make sense does it? Not dark/raised
by League of Assassins, a 10 year old trained by
assassins(to be an assassin I assume) isn't dark?

Well, that Batman is Dick Grayson....so he basically
considers Dick to be some orphan his dad took pity on
That's part of the character conflict. Dick took him on
as Robin to try to re-socialize and show him a different
way to operate, but he doesn't respect Dick yet.

Why would he ever agree to be Robin then? If he idolizes
his dad wouldn't he expect Dick to put on his old Robin
outfit and he get to be a 10 year old Batman lol?

Even seated, Superman is still SUPERMAN (by Toth)...

Gentle boredom drawn by *yawn* Quitely:

Jason Schulman: The Spider-Man drawing is amusing and belongs in some fan's collection of pro sketches, not on a cover.

----------------------------

A drawing of Spider-Man carrying groceries can be MUCH more interesting than that sleepy little sketch.

Common events in the superhero world do not have to be drawn in a boring, mundane, unimaginative style. Examples:

Quitely's art is modern.
...if by MODERN one means BORING and UGLY!

THE PROBLEM IS that today the current crop of comicbook artists
do not understand the LANGUAGE of COMICBOOKS.
I'm not talking about sequential storytelling.
I mean Jack Kirby/Sal Buscema Superhero Comicbook Storytelling. (!!!)

John Byrne (for example) makes it look easy to achieve,
but it isn't, and instead of trying harder to draw dynamically in a comicbook 'language', most don't realize that they aren't cut out for this type of work.
-I could name a few writers who should stay away from superhero comics too!-

Rather than Dynamic and Exciting, they opt for Ugly and Boring.

'Grandeur? What's that?' INDEED!

-edit to clarify...
Robert Walsh is correct, the above IS simply opinion.
...even though I am right. :P

Isn't this entire thread just people stating their opinion as fact?
