I don't have and don't spend much time around kids but that certainly doesn't sound like something a 10 year old would say/demand.  Especially compared to the young boys who were at the 4th of July family barbecue that I went to.

I guess that's a long running problem with comic writers.  Writing every character as if they were an 18-25 year old male.  Boys, girls, women...they're all the godd*mn Batman.

Were any of those kids raised by the League of Assassins in secret strongholds in Asia?  I mean, either you buy into the conceits of the comic, or you don't.  First Quitely and Morrison are being too 'realistic' and now the dialogue isn't 'realistic' enough?

********

Looks more like a Quitely/Alex Ross collaboration to me.

Perusing some Quitely art to find some good example to post, to make this less of a hater thread, I found that my problem isn't so much with him and super-heroes, its with him and some of the DC characters.  I don't like the WW above, and his Batman, as people have pointed out, isn't majestic.  But maybe its the nature of the characters, but...I don't mind his Spidey.  Maybe its just because in my mind Peter is a kid in a home-made costume, I dunno...  I wouldn't say Marvel as a whole is less majestic, as Cap and Thor should be drawn that way.

No, but what's the point of having a 10 year old character if they act like they're an 18 year old?  If you're not going to keep anything other than physical appearance then it seems pointless to specifically make this character 10 years old.  Especially considering that he doesn't look like he's a 10 year old, he looks like he's just in smaller scale.

I imagine that it might be a tough chore for a writer to convey how an accelerated 10 year old's personality might come across but it seems like a cheat to just say that he's been trained by assassins so now he sounds like a an adult.

I also consider it a slippery slope to just present something as fact that takes me right out of the story to wonder if a 10 year old, even if trained since birth would be as mature as this Robin seems to be.  I've seen Shao-lin monks (in movies) that were in constant training their whole lives but still came across as kids even though they could kick through a brick wall or any of the other amazing physical accomplishments they could do.

This character comes across as an older Robin's brain plopped into a 10 year old body.

Spider-Man buying groceries ... the X-Men standing around looking bored.  That Quitely sure knows how to produce some dynamic, exciting covers.  I mean, seeing that on a stand would just scream at me, "Buy this book!"

Well, if you read all the material with him, you'll know that while he's capable of moments like this, he's also capable of being incredibly immature.  There weren't any other children where he was raised, so he tries to act like a little adult...or in his case, a little version of his grandfather.  But he's prone to temper tantrums, jealousy, and little fits, too.

The key reason, I think, for the 10 years number is the fact that he was conceived after Bruce was Batman, and they don't want to make Bruce geriatric.

Geez, JB, I've really gotta watch every syllable I post around here.  While this thread started out talking about a larger issue, with Quitely as an example, several pages of it devolved to people posting Quitely scans and then proceeding to sneer at them.  So I tried to find some Quitely art that I though was pretty good.

No need to make a big deal out of it.

Oh, and note the wicked dynamics as Adams trusts the reader to perceive the threat even though the weapon is behind the attacker. Just by body placement, and an understanding of significance of the symbol, you understand what's going on

That is such an amazing Adams page.
