It's also oddly shaped.  Bicep's awfully tiny.

Anyway, can't have a thread about grandeur and not give a nod to Walt Simonson's Thor--

Dunno what it is about Simonson's inks but I swear I could recognize
his ink style from about any four lines he put on paper.

Cheers

Has there ever been a more perfect pairing in comics than Simonson and
Workman?

Al, I would vote no.

I barely used to notice that Odin font.  It seems pretty fancy, but it just blends in.

I think Chris Claremont and Tom Orzechowski were an equally perfect combo during their X-Men days.

Paulo- great Simonson panel.  He is almost too good!  After seeing that I may need to break out some of those Thor issues.

Interesting discussion here.  When talking about full script versus plot outlines - I think the car veered off the highway when the public was given insight into Alan Moore's dense scripting of Watchmen.  After it became a critical hit, I think every writer wanted to fill every panel with their "vision".  Lightning doesn't always strike twice.

Would the "Marvel Method" even work today considering people's egos?

Pretty much no. There's something about Simonson's line and Workman's
penmanship that is just beautiful.

I don't know if anyone has linked to this before, but there's a splendid
podcast interview with John Workman
on this page -
scroll down to Episode 596 for the link, or click
here to download the MP3 directly.

Cheers!

Talk about hidden jems this thread prompted me to look
through an old box of comics I bought years ago, it was
about the time I was getting out of comics so I never
really more than skimmed through it, I thought I might have
some old Batmans that might be Neal Adams'. Well no Batman
but I did have Avengers 93 and 94 both Adams books. I never
realized he even did any Avengers. I also found one of my
favorite ASM, issue 230 vs the Juggernaught. Each one is a
lesson in grandeur unto itself :-)

Thanos, I was thinking more in a visual sense.

Jason, me too.

Jason Czeskleba: Thanks for the information. I only have a few DC books from that period but no Aquaman...
