…Morrison…has said recently that he thinks him doing X-Men was a mistake, and that he didn't enjoy writing it because his style wasn't really suited to it.

••

How many issues did he write, anyway?

Re: Alex Ross, the weird thing to me is that even with the 'realistic' costumes, I find that most of his characters actually look pretty good, and often have a sense of grandeur...except Batman.  His Batman always looks like a pudgy goof.  Here's an example:

Look at Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman.  I'm particularly impressed with Ross' Aquaman.  He gives him a stature where you can see why he's in a room with Superman.  You can tell he isn't embarassed of Arthur.

But now look at Batman...what the hell?  Why can't Ross draw Batman?

Eye of the beholder, of course, but I see no grandeur in Ross' work any more. I see people in homemade costumes copping 'tude.

According to comicbookdb.com he wrote NEW X-MEN from #114 to 154, so about 40 issues.

Yeah, Batman looks ridiculous.  But I can't say I like that Flash either.  Can't really say I'm in love with any of them; they all look pompous.

Morrison has also admitted to taking high-paying jobs on mainstream characters to pay the bills while he works on the creator-owned stuff that he really wants to do.

Seems like only yesterday I was being excoriated by some fans for working "only for the money" (not even remotely true), but Morrison comes right out and says that's why he does superheroes, and remains a fan fave?

When did comic fans start hating the form and themselves so much?

Well, I have a soft spot for Aquaman, too.  I like the character a lot, but most of the people who draw him these days I can tell are embarassed of the character.  Obviously you're not guilty of that, JB, at least from the times I've seen you draw him, but it goes around a lot.  Ross' draws himas a guy on par with the rest of the JLA.

Waiting for the keg at Xavier's!

When did motion lines, thought balloons, and exposition become anathema to the form?  Those are 3 things that comics can do that other mediums cannot reproduce in a convincing/workable manner.

I really dislike the folds on GL and Flash's collars and the furrows on Batman's brow.
