My main issue with Frank Quitely is his inability to remain on model. In one issue of All-Star Superman, Jimmy Olsen's face changes five times. Possibly more. He doesn't look the same from panel to panel. It's distracting.

John Buscema reportedly preferred drawing fantasy stuff
like Conan over drawing superheroes. But that doesn't mean
he disliked drawing superheroes. I doubt he would have
stayed in the comics field if that were the case... he
certainly could have made a living doing commercial art if
he'd hated drawing superheroes.

Hey, even if Buscema hated dawing superheroes with a passion, that's a-ok with me, as long as it never showed in his work. Which it certainly never did!

It's not just Quitely either now. John Cassidy, Bryan Hitch, J.G. Jones, and Steve Epting all seem to have this trying to inject a sense of realism that, I think hurts the ability to use certain things that make a comic what it can be. Extreme Foreshortening Thought balloons speed lines etc.

Oh, I thought about mentioning that the Beast looks like he fell out of "The Lion King", but at least that change in appearance had a plot-based reason for it, even though I hate the look.

Maybe Beast is on his tip hooves looking for the incoming riot. It is hard to see over those grassy knolls sometimes!

"Riot at Xavier's" my foot. Better titles:
1. Meandering at Xavier's. 2. It's Too Loud in this Club to Talk so We're Just Standing Around at Xavier's. 3. Awkward Pause in the Conversation at Xavier's. 4. We Don't Know Each Other Very Well so We're Just Standing Around at Xavier's. 5. Looking Off-Model at Xavier's. 6. At Least No One's Allowed to Smoke in Marvel Comics or at Xavier's.

Vinny, Morrison felt Beast should look like the Beast from Beauty and the Beast because his code name is "Beast".

Riot at Xavier was a major turning point in me disliking if not nearly hating Morrison. Basically, the X-Men deal with the students rioting, which are all minors, by having Cycklops crippling their legs with his optic blast. Then, Toolverine tells them they'll all be sent to Africa for forced labor for life in a jail.
And then, for some reason... the one who investigated the riot and ran everything is practically turned into a hero. This is after the X-Men made not only the White Queen a member, but also the genocidal Cassandra Nova a member of the X-Men... He's entertaining, but he clearly just writes whatever big bullshit that comes out and then that's the script.

I can't get over it. That's an all-time terrible cover. Think of the PURPOSE of a comicbook cover and then look at that RIOT AT XAVIER'S specimen:
a. unrecognizable characters b. no action or anything actually happening at all.....nothing to tell you what the story is about or why you should read it....and not even a cool pin-up shot! People (you don't recognize) milling about. Awesome. c. hard to read logo.....NEW MEN? Who are they?

It looks like he has him standing on his toes like a cat.
