Wizard told them it was bad.

••

There's a strata of fandom that reminds me of that scene in THE LIFE OF BRIAN:

"You're all individuals!" "We're all individuals!"

Pity WIZARD turned out to be the Judas Goat of the industry.

I never actually read the Saga. I only flipped through the Spider-titles every now and then in the '90s. But the idea that Ben Reilly was The Real Peter Parker struck me as an incredibly stupid idea, even stupider than killing Aunt May. And the story seemed to go on and on and on and on...and then Reilly started wearing that crappy new version of the Spider-Man suit...

This new condensed version of the Saga might turn out to be a fun read but sometimes I do wish Marvel would take a page out of the old DC handbook and just forget about certain stories, "erase" them, whatever.

I read the Clone Saga back when it was running in the Finnish Spider-Man title and liked it. Sure, there were some parts of it that were bad (Maximum Clonage, I'm looking at you), but overall I enjoyed it. I also found Ben Reilly a likable guy and he had a pretty fun supporting cast of his own at the Daily Grind. I certainly wouldn't mind him coming back, just as long as Peter is the real deal.

The Clone Saga was a hell of a lot better and less damaging to Spidey and his supporting cast then "Sins Past","The Other",and "One More Day".

And here I'd consider them the jawbone of an ass.....

Strike that.

Just focus on the ass part.

Just finished reading an article in the new WIZARD and it asked fans on its website which was worse, Clone Saga or One More Day. Here are some answers ( and I'm going to paraphrase here, since I can't provide a link for a direct quote):

OMD is worse because it was blatantly editorially mandated

OMD is worse because at least the Clone Saga was a good idea forced to be bad by editorial and marketing

I just thought those two were humorous.

As it ended, yes.  As it was progressing, not necessarily.  I liked Ben, but he can't be the real Peter.  But in the end he wasn't, so I agree with you.

I didn't read much of the Clone Saga when it initially came out since at the time I was on a very limited budget and was predominantly into the X-Men and Fantastic Four.  My younger brother picked up some of the issues from the bargin bins and really enjoyed it.  He liked the action, the art and it worked for him, so who was I to judge what he should and should not like?

Jeremiah, I have to admit I never read the clone saga either. Most people I've talked to seem to hate it, even so I could give it a try if someone I trust recommends it to me.

"One More Day" should be considered punishment for fans who still read that crap at that point. I quit Spider-Man altogether not too far into JMS's run because, get this, I didn't like it, so I didn't buy it.

I picked Spider-Man back up during "Brand New Day", and now I'm having a blast.

Also, One More Day is only "blatantly editorial" because fandom is so small that online solicits and interviews are discussed to hell and back and back to hell 3 months before anything even happens anymore.

I enjoyed the Clone Saga, for the most part, but I'd be hard pressed to
figure out which issues to recommend for someone who missed out on it
the first time around. It was spread out over four different series, plus a
bunch of specials and one-shots, and the whole thing went on for over
two years...

Read Sensational Spider-Man (1996 series) #8-10 and #13-17. That first
set is the high point of Ben Reilly's tenure as Spider-Man, and should let
you know if you want to give the other Spider-Man 2.0 issues a try. The
next set is early on in the Return of Peter Parker period, and are some of
the most fun post-Clone issues. (I'm a big Mike Wieringo fan, so I'm
probably a bit biased there.)

The earlier issues of Sensational Spider-Man should give you a pretty
good sense of the Ben Reilly era, too.
