I quit reading Spider-Man because of the Clone Saga. Something about the fact that every Peter Parker story I've read since I was a kid turning out to not be Peter.

One shop in my city had a Clone Saga book burning party. No joke.

Hey there!

Sorry to disappoint some of you but I loved the CLONE SAGA. I must confess it went on and on for a long long time but in the end you really cared about Ben Reilly. It was silly to just kill him off in PPSM 75. He could have just gone away and come back once in a while. Besides, with so many different editors taking over the reins of the 4 Spidey x-ing over titles they sometimes messed up. That I concede. And I blame Macchio for having killed Peter & MJ's baby (or making her disappear or whatever...).

The only great thing that happened was reviving Norman Osborn.

First... so YOU'RE the one!!!! How could you possibly have liked the Clone Saga? It is the Great Satan of comic books. It caused the current economic collapse. It causes your eye brow hair to fall out, and grow on your back!!!

Second... do not blame Ralph. Orders came from higher up.

For those who missed the infamous Clone Saga and would like to read it here's the short checklist version:

It all starts in August 1994 in:

Web of Spidey # 117 - ASM # 394 - Spider-Man # 51 - Spectacular # 217 (4 part saga Power & Responsibility)

Then the 4 titles x-over until October 1996 (!!!!) when it ends in:

Peter Parker Spider-Man # 75 (Ben & the baby die)

In between "Web of" turns into "Sensational Spider-Man" by Jurgens & Janson late '95.

For a complete Clone run, don't miss:

the Spider-Man Unlimited titles

the Spider-Man Lost Years mini (De Matteis / Romita Jr)

the Spider-Man Final Adventure mini (Nicieza / Robertson)

the Spider-Man Redemption mini (De Matteis / Zeck)

PS: you're welcome!

I'm what you call an "eclectic person". I can like the Clone Saga, all JB ever did, Secret Wars (I know John didn't like that series!!) or Miller's run on DD...

As long as a story entertains me then it's fine by me.

Doesn't mean I don't have my favorite writers or artists though!

The baby didn't die. Peter and MJ were led to believe it did.

I don't have the issue in front of me ...Why would I ????

But anyway, From what my feeble mind recalls some woman persumed by myself to be only disguished as a nurse took Peter and MJ's baby she was working for Norman Osborn.

I couldn't be happier about this. After years of having the story ignored it seems like Marvel has become a little more accepting of it or at least realize that Ben Reilly and company do have fans. We got the Reilly centric issue of Spider-Man/X-Men earlier in the year, a Reilly centric Annual next month, the 'Who is Ben Reilly' arc in Amazing this fall and the cream of the crop, a new Clone Saga mini from two of the original 4 creators who worked on the book.

I'm so happy that Howard and Tom have a new opportunity to write Spider-Man (both of em) and the fact that it's about this storyline has me beaming.

Although Howard, you realize I have to pretty much change the ending of the book now right?

A few years ago I'd never heard of the Clone Saga.  But I bought a Spider-Man/Punisher 2 part story and there was this guy called Reilly being Spider-Man.
Utterly confused me and I still don't think I've got around to reading it.
But after a few years of slow research, I think I'm finally in a position where I might be able to get through it without being utterly confused the whole time.
I'm aiming for mildly baffled.

If they can get Jim Shooter back on Star Brand, I might just have to forgive Marvel.
